The College of the Desert Desert Community College District enrolls approximately 15000 students each academic year with steady enrollment growth each year. BASIC FUNCTION
- BASIC FUNCTIONUnder administrative leadership it is the responsibility of the instructor to participate in the planning implementation and evaluation of educational programs courses and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advancement of the vision mission and values of the community college district.WORKING CONDITIONSClassroom and online environment and faculty office environment. Classes may be held at all campus locations Palm Desert Indio Mecca-Thermal Palm Springs and/or Desert Hot Springs. Classes may be scheduled during the day evening or weekend and may include online synchronous and asynchronous teaching and learning.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
- DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- In coordination with area dean the program director is responsible for day to day activities of the MESA Program at the MESA center;
- Reports to the Dean of the School of Science and Mathematics with programmatic guidance from the state-wide community college director;
- Maintains communications between MESA centers engineering mathematics and science faculty unit heads of student support services engineering mathematics and science departments chairpersons/deans MESA students student organizations related professional societies and campus administrators;
- Coordinates planning of all student services which includes admission financial aid scholarships summer programs and jobs and academic career and student advising;
- Maintains center records;
- Coordinates evaluation of center activities and accomplishments;
- Participates in MESA statewide office training evaluation and other activities; and
- Works with the faculty sponsor to ensure successful implementation of the program in accordance with the MESA statewide office guidelines;
- Completes reports and evaluations as requested and attends in-service orientation training and other meetings of the other MESA center directors and advisors arranged by the MESA state-wide office.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Minimum Qualifications
- At least a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university preferably in mathematics-based field (one requiring calculus or equivalent).
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment with African-American Native American Mexican-American and other Latino American undergraduate students pursuing degrees in engineering computer science mathematics science or technical fields.
- Experience for one year or more in delivering to students academic services aimed at improving academic study test taking and other skills where the students are majoring in mathematics-based fields.
- Successful work experience for a minimum of three years in education industry or other profession involving work with postsecondary students in mathematics-based fields.
- Experience in directing activities requiring management and leadership skills.
- Experience with public and/or private postsecondary institutions.
- Familiarity with organizational operational and structural functions of post-secondary institutions.
- Ability to work independently assume responsibility and take initiative in carrying out assignments.
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic cultural disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
