Job Description

SAITs Continuing Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) focuses on non-credit programs supporting corporate training the individual learner and international projects. We create courses and programs for life-long learning with careers at our core. Our courses range from exploring general interests to up-skilling for career advancement and reskilling for career changes. We complete all background activities required to set up our products for students to purchase and experience several delivery options.

We are seeking an Alberta-based Indigenous Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide guidance on tailoring an existing Decolonization Module for one of our Corporate Clients. This Curriculum development project involves refining language improving cultural nuance and ensuring balanced representation of Indigenous perspectivesparticularly from at least three Alberta Nations. The SME will help align content with the Clients public service mandate emphasizing Call to Action 57 clarifying distinctions between colonialism and settler colonialism and supporting content edits to reflect the provinces legal and procurement context.

Familiarity with UNDRIP Indigenous workplace inclusion and decolonization training in corporate or government settings is essential.

The Role

    • Review and provide expert guidance on existing decolonization training content to ensure cultural relevance and accuracy.
    • Help ensure diverse Indigenous perspectives are reflected particularly those from multiple Nations within Alberta.
    • Contribute to clearer explanations of key concepts such as colonialism and settler colonialism.
    • Offer suggestions to refine language tone and terminology to better suit a public sector and organizational audience.
    • Advise on appropriate alignment with national reconciliation frameworks particularly those relevant to public service education.
    • Support the separation of organizational policy from individual employee actions in content messaging.
    • Participate in consultation sessions with stakeholders to provide cultural and contextual input.
    • Ensure revisions reflect both Indigenous realities and the broader provincial and organizational context.
    • Participate in a consultation call with Client (June 17) to discuss key edits and provide expertise on cultural and contextual considerations.

Qualifications and Experience

    • Minimum post-secondary degree plus 5 years of experience working with Indigenous communities. A combination of education and experience will be considered
    • Experience working within or alongside the energy sector particularly in Alberta with an understanding of how regulatory frameworks and Indigenous engagement intersect
    • Demonstrated ability to build respectful and constructive relationships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities and internal and external stakeholders
    • Deep knowledge of Indigenous communities cultures and protocols.
    • Instructional design literacy or experience working with learning designers is considered an asset
    • Ability to articulate an Indigenous world view within a post-secondary educational context
    • Proven judgement and discretion in dealing with confidential and sensitive matters
    • Knowledge of an Indigenous language would be considered an asset
