This is aDepartment Promotional Examination and is open to eligible employees of theKern County Behavioral Health & Recovery Services Departmentwho have successfully completed their initial probationary period and received an overall rating of standard or better on the last employee performance report.
EXAMINATION SCHEDULE:
- Written Exam: will be conducted on: June 25 2025
- Oral Exam: qualified candidates will be notified of the oral examination date 5 days prior to the examination.
Examinations:Written Exam(Weight 40%): Will be conducted for the purpose of assessing the applicants knowledge of supervisory principles; applicable local state and federal laws rules regulations and guidelines; public relations principles; mathematical principles; individual and group behavior theory; training principles; community resources; interviewing techniques.
Oral Exam (Weight 60%): Will be conducted for the purpose of appraising the applicants training education experience interest and personal fitness for the position.
The Human Resources Division may solely conduct an appraisal of application materials should there be an insufficient number of candidates to warrant a written exam.
If the number if applicants successful on the written exam is insufficient to warrant an oral exam the written examination shall be weighed 100%.
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
Examination components for promotional testing will be administered during the scheduled dates/times/locations without exception.
Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards:
High School Diploma G.E.D. or equivalent and five (5) years of education and/or experience sufficient to obtain the knowledge and skill to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Qualifying related work experience may include overseeing the day-to-day operations of a program; supervision of staff engaged in the activities related to a program; verifying documents to determine eligibility for benefits social services and/or employment; conducting needs assessments; making referrals for services; interviewing clients and providing program information to the public.
Additional Requirements:Some positions may require possession of a valid California Drivers License.

A background check may be conducted for this classification.
Following an offer of employment you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.
This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
