Job Summary
The Senior Director Medical Education serves as a strategic partner to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and GME DIO to lead and oversee all operational activities for graduate and undergraduate medical education. The incumbent is accountable for developing and managing all medical education initiatives contracts and payments including Medicare reimbursements and medical school affiliation agreements and partners with other stakeholders such as finance legal and compliance as necessary. Communicates vision and sets strategic and region-wide objectives based on extensive business and financial modeling.
Essential Functions
- Leads CHE initiatives to improve graduate and undergraduate medical education and meet GME accreditation.
- Develops and monitors operating and capital budgets related to medical education activities and structure. Analyzes monthly financial performance to ensure budget management.
- Partners with the Vice President of Medical Education/DIO to lead the East Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) and GME Leadership Team.
- Oversees the development of the Annual Institutional Review for GMEC approval and submission to the Corewell Health Board of Directors.
- Oversees the affiliated Medical School contracts and payments
- Monitors the CMS reporting for Graduate Medical Education reimbursement
- Supports a culture of professionalism that promotes patient safety stresses personal responsibility and adherence to ethical principles emphasizes systems-based practice fosters participation in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives and encourages scholarly research.
- Ensures compliance with Corewell Health East GME policies and procedures.
- Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Required Bachelors Degree or equivalent Bachelors degree or equivalent in healthcare educational administration or similar.
- Preferred Masters Degree or equivalent Ph.D. Ed.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Medical Education Health Services Administration or related field.
- 10 years of relevant experience GME or academic leadership experience including demonstrated ability to be a strategic leader. Required
- Leadership experience at the state regional or national level Preferred
