RESPONSIBILITIES

Thompson Rivers University is seeking a sessional faculty member who will teach ECED 2200: Practicum 3- Demonstration Practicum (3 credits)

Calendar description:

This is an advanced practicum course designed to give students opportunities to apply their skills and knowledge of the role of the educator in a community childcare program under the supervision of a practicum instructor and a designated sponsor educator. Students take on a leadership role to design and implement curriculum in addition to having more opportunities for reflection and the practice of ethical decision-making. Students introduce a project to a group of young children observe and record childrens learning and make the learning visible to the children families educators and community.



Requirements

Required:

  • A masters degree in ECE or relevant field is required. For example a relevant field could include Education Childhood Studies Child and Youth Care or Curriculum Studies for example.
  • Evidence of a minimum of three years of knowledge and experience working with young children and families in a licensed early years program or primary classroom (birth to 8 years old).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of early years curriculum including pedagogical narrations and working with current early learning frameworks to develop innovative programs for young children.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the course topic areas.
  • Excellent organizational interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 63)
  • Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 62)
  • Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10)
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity equity inclusion decolonization anti-racism and social justice in education.

Preferred:

  • Three years of successful teaching experience in post-secondary institutions
  • Active participation in ongoing research and / or community activities that contribute to and expand opportunities for students within the ECE program.
  • Experience implementing curriculum and thinking with reconceptualist theories and curriculum
