Licenses:
Current certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
Registration with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy (NCBOP) within 30 days of hire
Additional certification from PTCB preferred (e.g. Certified Compounding Sterile Preparation Certification)Requires critical thinking skills decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Minimum Work Experience
5 years of hospital pharmacy technician experience or worked 18 months within the organization as a pharmacy technician II; will consider additional certifications
Job Summary
This position under the direct supervision of the designated compounding person assists with the preparation of hazardous drugs including chemotherapy for patients in a timely and accurate fashion and in accordance with established regulations and procedures. This position assists the registered pharmacists in performing technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of various oral and intravenous medications. Demonstrates proficiency in all areas. Duties are performed under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.

Frye Regional Medical Center located in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina is a 355-bed acute care hospital 81-bed Behavioral Health facility and more than 70 primary and specialty care providers.
Essential Functions
- Assists pharmacist(s) in filling and delivering medication orders for all age groups
- Preparing medications and supplies for dispensing including: Repackages bulk medications o Compounding ointments and creams oral solutions and other medications
- Delivers medications to patient care areas and retrieves pharmacy related items
- Accurately restocks automated dispensing cabinets according to inventory levels
- Charges and credits patient profiles for medications used or returned to the pharmacy
- Assists with inventory management by stocking fluids and medications on shelves and assists with making sure medications are available in advance for infusion patients
- Inspects assigned out of date sections and/or nursing units as assigned on a monthly basis
- Answering phone calls and handling questions that do not require pharmacist expertise or judgment and routing calls to the appropriate party as necessary
- Maintains compliance and understanding of Compounding Sterile Products Policy and USP <797>
- Prepares IVs PCAs Epidurals in accordance with CSP Policy and USP <797>
- Understands and executes pharmaceutical calculations
- Performs cart fills refills automated dispensing machines restocks emergency boxes and kits
- Maintains compliance and understanding of USP <800>
- Compounds hazardous high-risk preparations utilizing proper aseptic technique in accordance with USP <800>
- Assists with training and orientation of new teammates to department workflow and procedures
- Processes charges and credits for medications as required
- Documents and delivers controlled substances according to hospital SOPs and regulatory requirements
- Able to perform a complete medication history for a patient
- Solves processes independently and seeks additional activities when required work is complete
- Accepts assignments in non-primary areas
- Works independently in all areas of pharmacy workflow
- Takes corrective action to solve problems
- Participate in quality improvement programs
- Participate in peer-to peer interviews as requested
- Assists with pharmacy programs/technology and workflow
- Adheres to all Frye Regional Medical policies and procedures
- Must understand risk(s) associated with preparation of hazardous substances and adheres to detailed policies and procedures to reduce the risk of occupational exposure
- Maintains compliance with Hazardous Drug Physical requirements as forth by FRMC Employee Health Committee approval process and completion/pass of competencies
