Job Description

Junior Kindergarten Teacher - 1.0 FTE
District

Location: To Be Determined

Reports To: Building Principal

Salary: Per the FHEA Master Agreement Salary Schedule

Schedule: Beginning with the 2025-2026 School Year

Job Summary: To teach appropriate grade-level content that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

Qualifications:

Required

  • State of Michigan Teacher Certification
  • Early Childhood Education PK-K (ZA) endorsement or Early Childhood PK General and Special Education (ZS) endorsement
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with child development principles and developmentally appropriate practices for 4-year-old and 5-year-old learners
  • Strong communication collaboration and organizational skills

Preferred

  • Previous experience teaching in an early childhood or Young 5s classroom setting
  • Familiarity with research-based early literacy and numeracy instructional practices
  • An understanding of trauma-informed and social-emotional learning practices

Essential Job Functions:

  • Communicate effectively with students staff and parents.
  • Plan and deliver engaging hands-on and developmentally appropriate lessons that align with district and state standards and the unique needs of Junior Kindergarten learners to include play-based learning.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture that supports social-emotional growth and teaches foundational skills such as self-regulation problem-solving and collaboration.
  • Implement instructional plans focusing on pre-academic skills including early literacy numeracy and fine/gross motor development.
  • Utilize various assessment tools to monitor student progress identify individual needs and inform instruction.
  • Establish positive relationships and collaborate with families through regular communication conferences and involvement opportunities to support student success.
  • Create a safe and organized learning environment using proactive strategies to promote positive behavior (PBIS) and ensure student engagement.
  • Work closely with colleagues support staff and administration to develop and implement strategies that address individual student needs and align with district goals.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to remain current with best practices in early childhood education.
  • Foster respect and understanding among students of all backgrounds.
  • Attend staff meetings and collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional strategies.
  • Provide a variety of learning materials to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate progress to parents/guardians.
  • Adhere to FERPA regulations and district policy when working with confidential data.
  • Consistent and reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand walk sit use hands to finger handle or feel reach with hands and arms climb or balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl talk hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and ability to adjust/focus. Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Work may be performed indoors and/or outdoors. The employee is directly responsible for the safety well-being and work output of students.

Mental Functions:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to compare analyze communicate both orally and in writing copy coordinate instruct compute synthesize evaluate use interpersonal skills compile and negotiate.
