Job Description

JOB GOAL:

The ELD teachersprimary responsibilities consist of providing instruction for students identified as English-Second Language/Language Minority Students and/or those presently working below grade level in any of the core-content subject areas as well as providing instructional knowledge and assistance to classroom teachers.

SUMMARY:

The vision of the Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy is to leverage support from families and community stakeholders to provide meaningful and engaging learning experiences to grow and equip leaders who will shape and impact the world in positive ways within and beyond the walls of our school. Lacey Academy seeks to provide a rigorous structured academic setting where leaders learn and learners lead. Students at Lacey will benefit from a rich collection of opportunities designed to equip learners with the necessary tools to lead within and beyond the walls of the school so that they are able to positively impact their communities and society.

Using quality grade level instruction coupled with engaging meaningful and affirmative educational experiences we will cultivate and nurture an environment that celebrates the diverse strengths of our learners to build and grow prepared and healthy people so they can achieve success at high levels both at school and in the community.

With the School Wellness Wheel framework as our foundation the Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy will serve as a beacon to stakeholders and an avenue to addressing trauma promoting wellbeing and elevating learning for all. This will be done through giving deliberate intention to implementing school-wide systems that embody mastery-based learning opportunities a growth-based educational approach and strength-based instruction in every will engage in high levels of hands-on experiences real world investigations and applied literacy and mathematics Lacey will have opportunities to engage in structured science technology reading/writing engineering arts and mathematics (STREAM) experiences from kindergarten through eighth grade building a strong cohort of leaderswho possess 21st Century skills for collaborative problem-solving technological literacy and career-readiness.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Nine and one-fourth (9.25) Month Contract Position (190 days) plus Benefit Package NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based upon education and experience.This position is reviewed annually and is contingent upon continued funding FLSA:EXEMPT

TEACHER SALARY SCHEDULE

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Arkansas teaching certificate in Elementary Education.
  2. Minimum of aBachelors degree.
  3. ESL endorsement and additional work with SIOP I and SIOP II training is desired.
  4. Three or more years of recent classroom experience at theelementary and/or intermediate level preferencegiven to work withEnglish language learners.
  5. Bilingual preferred Proficient in speaking English as well as Spanish or willing to learn.
  6. Expertise and experience related to literacy and second language acquisition is required.
  7. Mastery of effective instructional techniques and strategies that lead to improved studentachievement in all content areas.
  8. Knowledge of implementation of best ESL practices as well as integrating in a mainstreamclassroom.
  9. Knowledge of interventions appropriate for English language learners and the RTIprocess.
  10. Evidence of strong organizational skills.
  11. Evidence of expert use of technology both at the instructional level and usage level.
  12. Strong interpersonal skills.
  13. Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills.
  14. Strong work ethic and leadership abilities.
  15. Conviction that all children can and will learn in the Little Rock School District and at Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.

  1. Will provide instruction/interventions for3rd -5th grade students who are identified as ESOL/LEP and or working below grade level in any of the subject below grade level.
  2. Collaborate with grade level teachers in planning daily lessons analyzing data and providing appropriate interventions/modifications.
  3. Monitor student progress.
  4. Serve on LPAC: Maintain paperwork for students identified as LMS.
  5. Observe students in their classrooms to ensure transfer and success of intervention.
  6. Provide small group instruction for students in grades 3-5.
  7. Communicates students progress to parents and teachers as well as instructionalsupport team in the school.
  8. Participates in creating an environment conducive to the learning and growth of all children.
  9. Enters data online and prepares reports for school and district.
  10. Attends professional development as necessary.
  11. Administers Various assessments as well as but not limited to ELDA MAC II and Diagnostic Tests to children.
  12. Collaborates to provide to provide professional development to classroom teachers on effective teaching strategies for students.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Mental Functions Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit stand walk go up and down stairs operate foot and hand controls use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound near and far vision depth perception handling and working with educational materials and/or objects and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period and to be physically present and at assigned work with only infrequent unexcused absences during the contract year. Additional technical skills knowledge and abilities may be recommended by immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
