Job Description

LEAD MECHANIC
1.0 FTE Permanent Position 40 Hours
Hours of Work: 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
$30.99 per hour (CUPE Maintenance 2 Salary Grid)
Reports to the Lead Supervisor of Infrastructure Buildings & Plumbing

Interested applicants are required to submit a cover letter and resume.
Interviews and practical testing will be conducted.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Capable and willing to complete all duties of the General Mechanic
  • Design build install and repair structures fixtures furniture and other items using different types ofmaterials including wood and steel
  • Prepare the layout of projects and select appropriate materials
  • Estimate height width length and other proportions
  • Work with materials such as wood plastic fiberglass drywall and/or other
  • Utilize chisels planes saws drills and sanders to repair and erect structures
  • Join materials with nails screws staples adhesives and/or other
  • Use levels rules plumb bobs framing squares surveying equipment etc to ensure everything is level and secure
  • Measure for replacement of interior exterior doors cabinetry or millwork
  • Ensure quality of workmanship and provide direction to all workers assigned
  • Check work regularly to ensure projects are up to code and specifications
  • Work in and around confined spaces
  • Willing and able to wear and use personal protective equipment in order to safely enter or work in specific environments

Willing and able to complete the following training programs:

  • Fall Arrest training
  • Confined Space training
  • Spill Procedures training
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods training
  • preparing of Small Drinking Water Systems training
  • Asbestos Removal Type 1 and Type 2 training

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Five years of recent experience in commercial construction
  • Advanced knowledge of carpentry and the ability to demonstrate these skills
  • Strong ability to interpret drawings and blueprints
  • Knowledge and understanding of pertinent safety and building codes regulations and legislation
  • Computer skills
  • Successful completion of HWDSB Training Courses (Appendix E Section 1 of the CUPE Collective Agreement)
  • Valid Class G Drivers license and reliable transportation
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends with suitable prior notice
