SUMMARY Flathead Valley Community College is an outstanding public community college located on a beautiful campus in Kalispell Montana with panoramic views of the northern Rocky Mountains and Glacier National Park. The Coordinator creates organizes implements and evaluates campus recreation and wellness activities and programs for FVCC students ensuring student needs are met. This position also oversees the direct operations of the campus Student Fitness Center. Typical work schedule often includes nights and/ or weekends.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Works collaboratively with students and employees in coordinating and implementing a balanced student recreation and wellness program that addresses the needs of the college community and enhances the quality of life and learning for students.
- Plans implements and evaluates student recreation and wellness programs which include intramurals peer education programs virtual opportunities and Fitness Center activities.
- Recruits trains and supervises Student Wellness Peer Educators and Recreation Assistants.
- Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Fitness Center.
- Serves as the primary contact for scheduling the Stinson Family Event Center soccer field and tennis courts; manages related bookings using venue management software. Provides usage guidelines and rates and responds to inquiries.
- Develops cost estimates for outside users; confirms bookings prepares use contracts issues invoices and collects required insurance documentation prior to use.
- Collaborates with a team in marketing and communications efforts to promote and increase usage of recreation and wellness programs and facilities.
- Provides evening and weekend supervision of activities; officiates/referees intramural sports activities as needed.
- Provides encouragement outreach and connection to engage students in recreation and wellness activities.
- Maintains accurate registration documentation including forms waivers reports and equipment checkout.
- Oversees all recreation equipment ensures proper maintenance cleanliness storage and inventory and recommends equipment purchases and repairs.
- Administers the Healthy Colleges Montana grant; ensures alignment with student wellness initiatives set by Student Engagement.
- Assists with campus-wide student events and Student Engagement initiatives including using the Campus Groups platform.
- Builds partnerships and fosters cooperative relationships with campus schools community groups and other external agencies to enhance and promote FVCC recreation and wellness activities.
- Maintains CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Remains current in practices trends and research related to areas of assignment.
- Attends related trainings workshops and professional development.
- Cross trains to perform other departmental and team functions; backfills for staff as needed.
- Actively participates in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and efforts to continuously improve services to students faculty and the College.
- Creates and maintains a collaborative and collegial environment with colleagues and maintains effective working relationships.
- Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
- Advances the mission of FVCC by serving on or convening committees and contributing to the community in college-related activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Reports to the Program Director Student Engagement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelors degree in closely related field AND one year of experience working in recreation and wellness programs; OR
- Associates degree in closely related field AND three years of experience working in recreation and wellness programs; OR
- An equitable combination of higher education and experience working in recreation and wellness programs;
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications OR the ability to obtain within three months of hire AND
- Valid Montana drivers license with insurable driving record OR ability to obtain license by start of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Two years of work experience in higher education recreation and wellness programs.
- Experience officiating/refereeing sports activities.
- Experience overseeing peer education.
- Experience in event planning.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES - Knowledge of health and wellness topics including current practices in recreation fitness and peer education
- Knowledge of intramural sports rules safety practices and officiating/refereeing sports activities.
- Ability to schedule facilities operations and utilize venue management systems.
- Ability to manage fiscal budget comply with spending guidelines align with institutional priorities and other related fiscal and administrative tasks.
- Skill and ability to operate current technology such as student/customer information systems and platforms proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace software applications and other related software.
- Strong commitment to providing quality customer service and collaboration by creating a welcoming and supportive environment for a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC.
- Ability and willingness to serve as an ambassador for the College by interacting appropriately with the college community and community.
- Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships.

- Ability to pass drivers license records check and maintain current Montana Drivers License and a clean driving record.
- Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.
- Ability to respond in the event of an emergency.
- This is a Medium Duty job according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles U.S. Department of Labor and Industry. Medium Duty involves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
