Job Description
The following vacancy exists in Goshen Community Schools for the2025-26school year:
Goshen Intermediate School
School Nutrition Staff: Head Cook
POSITION PURPOSE: Under the direction of a Building School Nutrition Manager prepare and cook a wide variety of foods following standard recipes to achieve required taste and appearance standards; assist in other food service areas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Sets up food service kitchen and other facilities equipment and utensils in accordance with specific area needs.
- Checks and record food and equipment temperatures
- Assists School Nutrition Manager and performs manager duties when School Nutrition Manager is absent.
- Follows menus and recipes in the preparation of meat dishes and other main dishes for breakfast and lunch service.
- Assists in storing unused food and supplies.
- Maintains and operates food service equipment (ovens grills steam table cash register and other cafeteria equipment) and areas in a clean and sanitary condition.
- Operates standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Observes health and safety regulations.
- Arranges cooking schedule and storage of cooked items to assure proper temperature of hot foods at serving time; Meet schedules and timelines.
- Prepares and serves food in accordance with health and sanitation regulations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current Food Safety Certificate.
- Knowledge of methods of cooking preparing and serving food in large quantities.
- Knowledge of serve or assist in serving children during lunch and/or breakfast.
- Knowledge of sanitation and safety practices related to cooking and serving food.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Any combination equivalent to: sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above and two years experience in quantity food preparation.
- Basic record-keeping techniques.
- Basic math and cashiering skills; Add subtract multiply and divide quickly and accurately.
- Verbal communication skills; understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Follow adjust and extend recipes making changes quickly and accurately.
- Work independently with little direction.
HOURS:182 days per year;40hours per week;daily hours (6:00am to 2:00pm)
SALARY:$17.30-$17.60 rate is dependent upon education and/or experience. (Schedule #24-4)
