Required Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and
  • Must be 18 years of age or older by date of hire.

Additional Eligibility Requirements:
  • Working knowledge of basic building operation repairs equipment used and cleaning buildings.
  • Basic knowledge of the practices and techniques of landscape maintenance tree care and basic landscape construction techniques.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures for this line of work.
  • Must be honest and truthful in all tasks and responsibilities.
  • Possession of valid drivers license by date of hire. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon drivers license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)).
  • Ability to maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation to the satisfaction of the City.


Available Schedule:

  • Friday - Monday 6:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Compensation & Information on Benefits

As of July 1 the anticipated hiring range for the Parks Laborerposition is $18.36(first step) to $19.28or $20.24(second or third step).The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education experience andqualifications as provided by the applicant in their application materials alongside others who perform work of comparable character consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay are included in this salary range allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.

  • Operates handheld gas-powered equipment to include string trimmers hedge trimmers blowers and chain saws.
  • Operates riding mowers and tractors.
  • Perform manual landscape maintenance to include pruning weeding and planting.
  • Performs equipment maintenance.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at work sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather heat and humidity and exposure to dust and wind.

Moderate physical demands associated with landscape maintenance and facility maintenance. The position may lift objects that weigh up to 75 pounds walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts pushes pulls or carries objects; uses lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively jumps sprints or throws objects. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand hand with arm two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina.
