POSITION TITLE: Part-Time Gifted & Talented Facilitator
EXEMPTION STATUS:Exempt
REPORTS TO:Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:As needed
Primary Purpose:
Develop learning experiences and instruction that provide an array of learning opportunities for students that are identified gifted and talented.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
Valid Texas Teaching Certificate preferred
48 or more semester hours from an accredited college or university preferred
30 hours of GT professional learning including Nature and Needs and ID and Assessment
Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of the educational needs of gifted and talented students.
Ability to design and implement interdisciplinary units of study.
Flexibility and confidence in working with gifted students parents teachers and multiple principals.
Desire to work with students of all ages social and ethnic backgrounds
General knowledge of academic subjects curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior
Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Experience working with children
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support
- Develop and implement lesson plans for the gifted and talented pull-out program.
- Plan engaging lessons that meet the individual needs interests and abilities of gifted students based on the district goals and objectives.
- Work cooperatively with principals teachers and campus staff.
- Assist in the coordination of the Texas Research Institute for Young Scholars Symposium.
- Assist students to develop advanced-level products and or performances that are targeted to an audience outside the classroom.
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency board policy and administrative regulations.
- Use appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process as applicable.
- Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits.
- Serve as a positive role model for students.
- Assist in creating a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior as instructed by the teacher and in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
Communication
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues students parents and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Maintain high degree of confidentiality.
