Job Description

60% Recruitment and Outreach
  • Lead and participate in recruitment presentations to small groups large groups and individuals.
  • Serve as a presenter and on-call recruitment staff member for prospective students and their families/supporters.
  • Attend a variety of events including but not limited to
    • undergraduate recruitment events supporting Lawrence Edwards and online Edwards programs with a special focus on incoming freshman students.
    • local college fairs in fall and spring semesters for prospective undergraduate students to promote School of Professional Studies freshman admit programs.
    • Travel to regional high schools community colleges and industry partners to deliver presentations and represent SPS at events targeting prospective students and workforce partners. Reliable access to transportation is required.
  • Assist with the planning hosting and presenting of both in-person and virtual events including webinars student panels and program information sessions for prospective and current students including:
    • on-campus group visits for Lawrence students and freshman admits.
    • virtual undergraduate outreach.
    • targeted programming for undergraduate programs.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and contribute to content for recruitment presentations social media campaigns email/text and phone communications and in-person or virtual events.
  • Participate in meetings within the School of Professional Studies and Admissions.
  • Set long-term strategic plans in collaboration with the School of Professional Studies staff and administration.
  • Recommend best practice and implement strategies to increase the number of undergraduate applications from underrepresented populations in collaboration with the School of Professional Studies staff and administration.
  • Respond to prospective student inquiries via telephone and email.
  • Direct prospective students to faculty and program directors as appropriate.
  • Conduct outreach to current or stop-out students to encourage re-enrollment and provide information on program offerings deadlines and resources.
30% - Professional Development Personal Initiate or Needs-Driven Project
  • Identify prospective student needs within the School of Professional Studies.
  • Present identified to School of Professional Studies leadership team.
  • Develop implement and coordinate a working project to benefit recruitment strategies within the School of Professional Studies.
10% - Other duties as assigned
  • Support for ongoing student success efforts.
  • Assist students in navigating on-campus and community resources including tutoring advising career services and basic needs support.
  • Support for SPS graduation celebrations.
  • Support outreach to community workforce partners to include supporting on-campus group visits.
  • Other SPS-related initiatives.

Work Schedule

  3. Availability to work five days per week some evening/weekend hours required during peak recruitment seasons and have reliable transportation to Lawrence and Edwards Campuses.


  1. Specialized knowledge related to the position (for example coursework in ELPS 884 College Access Persistence & Success; ELPS 781 Introduction to Higher Education; ELPS 883 Student Development Theory; ELPS 885 Assessment & Evaluation as indicated on application materials.
  2. Effective oral communication skills to reach a variety of stakeholders as indicated on application materials.
  3. Proficient with Microsoft Outlook Teams and Office Suite products as indicated on application materials.


Position Overview
The Recruitment Coordinator Graduate Assistant (GA) is responsible for assisting the School of Professional Studies with undergraduate recruitment events presentations visits undergraduate student inquiry management and follow-up as part of the larger School of Professional Studies enrollment management plan to recruit students into School of Professional Studies programs. This person will work closely with the marketing coordinator enrollment analyst and the KU Transfer Team. This position will represent SPS at events held by the Office of Admissions assist with visits for community partners and attend local events focused on prospective students. This individual may also attend out-of-state recruitment events depending on location and availability. The goal of the position is to increase the number of admissions applications across the School of Professional Studies undergraduate programs by providing timely accurate friendly and consistent service to prospective students with a special focus on prospective freshmen students. Acquiring a breadth and depth of knowledge across academic offerings and support is required for the success of this position. This position supports the educational needs of Johnson County Education Research Triangle (JCERT) programs funded through a 1/8 of a cent sales tax within Johnson County. Specific percentages of effort for JCERT are determined each person in this position must understand and adhere to FERPA and institutional compliance expectations.

Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
