Job Description

MAINTENANCE CREW LEADER

DEPARTMENT: Public Services

DIVISION: Parks Cemetery & Trails Division - Structural Parks Crew

PAY GRADE: GRADE 140: $57005.24 $82657.60 Annual Salary $27.40 - $39.73 Hourly Rate. Typically hire at the minimum.

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt Full-Time 40 hours Weekly Eligible for Benefits

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE MAINTENANCE CREW LEADER - PARKS STRUCTURAL

This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and construction duties throughout the park system. The Maintenance Crew Leader directs daily routine maintenance checks and repairs to park facilities and supervises an assigned crew performing such duties. The position receives directions from the Structural Maintenance Supervisor. It exercises functional and technical supervision over lower-level maintenance staff which may include Community Service Workers.

MAINTENANCE CREW LEADER - JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for the Weber County Community Service Workers periodically and will carry out the rules and policies associated with this program.
  • Participate in a variety of facility maintenance duties including maintaining park buildings and structures installing and maintaining fencing repairing park benches and clearing debris from parking areas streets and City rights of way (ROW).
  • Participate in and direct crews in a variety of park maintenance duties including construction building repair concrete finishing plant maintenance and landscape duties trimming trees and shrubs mowing and edging lawns raking recreation areas watering plants and trees and sweeping and clearing fallen trees from the public paths and walkways.
  • Assists the Forestry Crew in the maintenance and care of trees within City ROW including storm response.
  • Assist Area Maintenance Crews with major irrigation repairs and installation as necessary.
  • Assist the Cemetery Crew with cemetery maintenance periodically including interments.
  • Provide support for various special events including coordination setup takedown and support during events.
  • Inspect playground equipment and remove possible hazards to ensure safety.
  • Prepare documentation regarding safety checks.
  • Inspect and operate a variety of tools and equipment including power tools saws backhoes skid loaders tractors dump trucks and lawn mowers.
  • Perform general maintenance duties including refueling changing oil lubricating parts and making minor adjustments as necessary.
  • Performance of trail maintenance and construction including coordination with Ogden Trails Network (OTN) and their volunteers.
  • Maintain bathrooms including repairing broken fixtures and lights roofing replacing toilets and sinks and painting walls and ceilings as required.
  • Pick up litter from grounds and empty trash containers throughout assigned parks.
  • Assist with the construction and refurbishment of various park buildings and structures.
  • Prepare the ground set forms and pour and finish concrete.
  • Perform maintenance and repair by using various welding equipment and techniques.
  • Patrol and inspect parks to ensure the safety of the public and park facilities.
  • Note possible safety hazards or causes of injury and contact appropriate law enforcement or emergency agency as required.
  • Prepare appropriate reports and documentation.
  • Performs and directs crew in snow removal duties at various park facilities.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.
  • Directs and assists the crew in the removal of graffiti at various locations throughout the City.
  • Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city.
  • Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Employees are required to work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; employees are required to communicate in person with the public during office hours; and employees are required to use on-site equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
