Performs dual role Occupational Health/Safety and Industrial Hygiene job specialties
Protects the work force the public and the environment by the anticipation recognition evaluation communication and control of safety and health stressors in or arising from the workplace that may result in injury illness or impairment or negatively impact the well-being of workers
Provides technical safety and industrial hygiene support to all levels of line management and supervision
Conducts routine safety and industrial hygiene oversight for operations maintenance construction and other activities.
Conducts workplace inspections and programmatic assessments
Conducts safety and industrial hygiene oversight audits and surveillances of nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.
Develops documents and oversees hazard analysis and control processes for operations maintenance construction and other activities.
Assists with execution of Y-12 safety and industrial hygiene improvement initiatives.
Analyzes safety and industrial hygiene data and statistics and recommends improvements for assigned organizations
Conducts accident injury illness and property damage incident investigations to identify causes and assist in determining corrective actions
Assists the Y-12 Occupational Health Services Department with injury and illness follow-up investigations.
Participates in job hazard identification and analysis identification of controls work oversight and feedback to improve safety and industrial hygiene performance
Makes recommendations for the selection and utilization of engineering work practice/administrative and personal protective equipment controls based on recognized safety and industrial hygiene principles and practices and CNS policies and procedures
Reviews work plans procedures and technical requirements to ensure proper integration of safety and industrial hygiene standards policies and procedural requirements into work activities
Provides safety and industrial hygiene consultation reviews and interpretation and interfaces with management and employees to effectively resolve safety and industrial hygiene concerns
Serves as subject-matter expert responsible for effective maintenance of program assignments and/or job tasks
Defines problems collects data establishes facts draws conclusions and makes decisions within established procedures and best management practices
Evaluates quantitative and qualitative surveys sampling and monitoring methods for assessing workplace conditions to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements site policies and procedures
Reviews and interprets survey and monitoring data and provides technical guidance for hazard analysis and establishment of associated controls
Demonstrates requisite mathematics skills with the ability to perform routine and complex safety and industrial hygiene calculations
Demonstrates thorough knowledge and understanding of DOE worker safety and health requirements and applicable referenced OSHA and consensus safety and health standards
Prepares complete accurate and concise reports in a timely manner
Bachelors degree in safety industrial hygiene or related science or engineering discipline advanced degree a plus
Prior work experience at a U.S. Department of Energy nuclear facility
Certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred for senior position
Experience with job hazard analysis and work control chemical management and respiratory protection
Demonstrates requisite competency in a variety of computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite products (e.g. Word Excel PowerPoint) and safety and industrial hygiene data management systems
Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication listening and presentation skills
Team oriented with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of personnel (i.e. line employees through senior management)
