Job Description
Position Title: CNA
Pay Grade: 10 Period of Employment: 9.5 months
Description Approved/ Revised: 6/2024 FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Supervised by and/or Reports to: Principal School Nurse Director of Student Health Services
General Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for assisting the school nurse in the implementation of the schools student health services program.
Essential Duties:

- Follows the school nurses instructions and procedures to assist in the daily operation of the clinic.
- Performs specialized health care procedures as trained and assigned i.e. suctioning tube feeding catherization etc.
- Keeps the school nurse informed as to the urgency of student needs.
- Administers care to students as directed by the school nurse.
- Assists with medications only when directed by the school nurse.
- Signs students into the clinic noting the reason for requesting services.
- Takes students temperature when appropriate.
- Shares information or locates students as requested by the school nurse.
- Answers clinic phone calls; summarizes requests to school nurse.
- Assists the school nurse with the maintenance of records and reports.
- Provides minor care and first aid as authorized by the school nurse.
- Completes work in the time specified.
- Helps maintain and support the school clinic.
- Assists with screening programs.
- Assists with medically involved or medically fragile students as directed by the school nurse.
- Utilizes the nursing components of the electronic Health Records software as directed by the school nurse.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requisite Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Correct English usage spelling grammar and punctuation.
- Knowledge of universal precautions for prevention of communicable diseases and blood-borne pathogens; ability to maintain confidential files and information and to compile reports.
- Ability to deal effectively with students and teachers.
- Ability to operate standard office word and data processing equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers parents students and associates.
Requisite Education and Experience:
- Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.
- Must possess an active CPR/AED/ First Aid Certification with hands-on training.
- Must possess or be eligible for a current license and in good standing as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Certified Medical Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Must have a minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience working with children in an education health care or child-care setting; or any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities.
- Serve as a role model.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see read talk hear handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment such as but not limited to: a personal computer calculator copier and fax machine. Some climbing stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting grasping or repetitive motions required.
