Job Description

St Gemmas Hospice is one of the leading hospices in the UK. The Hospice provides expert palliative and end of life care in a quality environment for thousands of local people each year. It is a prominent and respected charity at the heart of the local community with a large range of specialist services to support patients their families and friends.
As a Maintenance Technician you will support the Maintenance and Estates Manager in delivering a comprehensive Maintenance service to all St Gemmas premises and grounds including our chain of charity shops to ensure compliance with our safety standards and procedures.

You will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the electrical systems and infrastructure.

The maintenance team support all areas of the Hospice and this varied role includes:

  • Ensuring that all equipment and machinery is monitored and maintained.
  • Identifying faults within the electrical systems plant and equipment and utilising your knowledge and experience to resolve the problem.
  • Carrying out all in-house electrical installation.
  • Assisting with planning work activity in compliance with Health and Safety legislation.
  • Providing technical support when issues arise.
  • Supporting and training other members of the Maintenance team.
  • Ensuring all records are kept up-to-date and in accordance with Hospice standards and legal requirements.
  • Completing all maintenance/breakdown requests in a timely and effective manner.
  • Contributing to the maintenance on-call rota to cover 24 hours a day Monday to Sunday.

You should have at least 3 years experience as a Maintenance Technician. You will need to have a qualification in electrical installation (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) along with experience in other building disciplines such as joinery painting and decorating.

We are looking for someone with strong communication skills who enjoys working as part of a team but can work equally well on their own has apositive attitude and a flexible approach. You will need to have good organisation skills and be able to prioritise a changing workload.

A full driving licence is required for this role.
