Position Description:
To assist all coaches in the development organization and implementation of the entire athletic program as well as the provision of leadership to all athletic personnel and student athletes. The athletic director must adhere to allJefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS) rules and regulations relative to the athletic program. Work day consists of time after completion of the school day necessary to adequately prepare the team for competition. Also he/she must sometimes work weekends and holidays as determined by the preparedness of his/her team.

Security Statement: The athletic director must maintain security of electronic and print records with regard to confidentiality of student information and passwords that are issued for access to databases.
Scope of Responsibility:
Scope of Responsibility:
- Provides overall supervision of the athletic program within the guidelines of JPPSS policies rules and regulations.
- Reviews purchase orders prior to principals approval as required by the principal.
- Supervises expenditures of athletic funds as required by the principal.
- Maintains all records specified by JPPSS.
- Confirms practices games and participation as requested by the principal.
- Coordinates interviews for coaching positions as requested by the principal.
- Communicates and shares with all coaches any parish information.
- Monitors booster club reports and functions as required by principal.
- Builds sportsmanship as well as provides good public relations in the school and community.
- Ensures all student athletes have a current physical exam.
- Ensures that all student athletes have adequate insurance coverage as specified by JPPSS. Keeps the principal and faculty informed of departure times for trips as well as ensures that all participants have transportation home when returning from road trips.
- Conducts athletic department meetings at the beginning of the school year at mid-term and at the end of the school year.
- Evaluates all eligibility documents for each sport and uploads per LHSAA compliance requirements.

Compile a school directory with coaches contact information as well as an emergency contact
- Promotes middle school athletes to attend our high schools.
- Works with Parish Athletic Director to schedule annual physicals.
Submits copies of all eligibility rosters to Parish Athletic Director.
- Ensures all documents are in a secure location.
- Participates in professional development through workshops literature clinics and seminars. Adheres to Parish requirements for promptly reporting rosters schedules scores eligibility or documentation of incidents or injuries.
- Cooperates communicates and works with the parish athletic director and administrator in charge of athletics.
- Performs all duties as assigned by the principal and or appropriate administrator.
Skills and Qualifications:
- The athletic director must be able to communicate in Standard English both orally and in writing and or digitally.
- Must have the ability to accurately give and receive information via telecommunication system and be able to communicate successfully and tactfully with students parents and school personnel. While following JPPSS policies.
- The athletic director must accurately communicate with members of the media.
- The athletic director must be able to represent the school and or school system at various functions.
- The athletic director must be able to accurately compile and access data summarize information and provide written reports to his/her supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate and/or CECP completion.
- Employment with the Jefferson Parish Public School System as a teacher and/or administrator.
- Must meet the requirements in Article 3.3 (Faculty Coaches) of the LHSAA handbook.
- Demonstrated expertise knowledge and competency in coordinating sports with the principal and Parish Athletic Director.
- Professional knowledge of LHSAA and JPPSS rules and regulations.
- Expertise knowledge and competency in conditioning of athletes sport specific.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Previous playing experience in a sport is preferred (on college or university level; minimum experience on high school level).
- Previous coaching experience on the junior varsity junior high/middle school or other recreation activity level in sports.
- Expertise knowledge and competency in first aid for the prevention and treatment of injuries. Possess a CDL class B or above with a P and S endorsement free of air brake restrictions. Meets all requirements of the Louisiana Department of Education school bus driver component. Masters degree in sports sciences.
Physical Involvement:
- Standing running walking reaching bending and lifting is required. Must be able to demonstrate athletic techniques and physically transfer or position athletes as required.
He/she must be able to move heavy athletic equipment.
- Ability to provide own transportation to games work locations and meeting sites. Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
