Job Description
The Risk Analyst II is a mid-level role within the risk department responsible for identifying analyzing and managing several types of risks that could impact the organizations financial performance operational effectiveness and compliance. This position builds on the foundational skills developed at the entry level and requires a deeper understanding of risk management frameworks advanced analytical abilities and the capacity to manage more complex risk assessments and mitigation strategies. A Risk Analyst II typically work more independently and take on more responsibility in risk analysis reporting and mitigation efforts.
Key Responsibilities & Objectives
- Conduct transactional and behavioral analysis of merchant activity to identify trends variations patterns and insights relating to the identification of suspicious or anomalous activity.
- Monitor merchant activity through exception reporting for current transaction activity as well as historical behavioral monitoring for financial risk exposure related to chargebacks fraud or settlement rejects.
- Analyze credit processing history business financial statements bank statements and business model obtained during underwriting and/or periodic reviews to identify risk exposures.
- Update merchant parameters to reflect acceptable performance patterns and field inbound requests through direct support and/or merchant communications.
- Maintain records of risk assessments investigation actions and relevant communications related to risk inquiries.
- Provide or assist in preparing reporting on a regular basis and as directed or requested to keep management informed of the operation and progress of risk management and loss prevention/recovery efforts.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all card brand rules and regulations.
- Handle high risk situations and escalate to management and/or senior management for prompt action.
- Ability to account for collect on and manage daily funding rejects bank depository changes and decision-making regarding merchant reserve requirements and releases.
- Analyze more complex data provide conclusions and make actionable recommendations to management based on deeper analysis.
- Take ownership of risk projects and lead certain assessments or initiatives without needing much oversight.
- Work closely with cross functional departments with risk related issues in day-to-day operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 2-4 years of experience in risk financial services payments industry or a related field with an understanding of risk management processes.
- Knowledge of rules laws and best practices relating to payment processing including: PCI/DSS KYC KYB AML OFAC and FTC/CFPB regulations.
- Experience in basic risk management and risk assessment functions including creation and maintenance of controls supporting loss prevention or recovery.
- Strong writing skills and the ability to communicate information about complex regulatory issues to stakeholders in a clear and easy to understand way.
- Ability to develop creative and adaptive solutions to unique and complex inquiries related to product design monitoring tools and other initiatives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) for data analysis and reporting
- Ability to effectively thrive in a rapid-paced working environment with tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Team-focused positive attitude and good sense of humor.
