Job Description

Department Summary

The Veterans and Military Resources (VMR) office strives to provide exceptional leadership and service in advocating for excellence and integrity in all graduate and undergraduate programs at the University of Denver. Dedicated to quality innovation engagement integrity and inclusion the VMR maintains the highest standards in veteran engagement studies and career services focused on providing an excellent experience from inquiry to alumni association.

Under the direction of the Dean of Students Veterans and Military Resources partners with deans academic units the Undergraduate Student Government the Graduate Student Government and University governance on recruitment and retention and program review to continually improve the quality of graduate and undergraduate education at DU.

Position Summary

The Program Coordinator will administratively support the Office of Veterans and Military Resources. The Program Coordinator will supervise work-study staff supporting maximum office coverage during business hours. The Program Coordinator will lead work-study staff supporting our GI Bill users and coordinate events throughout the year. The Program Coordinator will demonstrate a commitment to the principles of diversity and inclusion through involvement and participation in university/division-wide professional development opportunities.

This part-time non-benefited position will work up to 20 hours a week. The Veterans and Military Resources Program Coordinator is a part-time position that will be funded for three years. With the potential to go beyond should funding be identified. This position reports directly to the Director of Veterans and Military Resources.

The Program Coordinator supports coordinates and participates in VMR functions such as weekly meetings GI Bill User orientation program DU Veterans Hockey Night DU Veterans Ball etc. and events and trainings through the SAIE division. The Program Coordinator attends staff and supervision meetings and professional development opportunities.

This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1000 hours in a calendar year.

Essential Functions

Program Management

  • Provide exceptional program management for all events hosted by the Office of Veterans and Military Resources and supervise the coordination of various veterans events on campus.

Supervision and Training

  • Supervise train evaluate and onboard up to eight Department of Veterans Affairs work studies and federal work studies. Support onboarding for new employees train new employees on office procedures and coordinate office functions with the School Certifying Official. Assign tasks to VA work-study students in Teams.

Campus Collaboration

  • Work with faculty and staff educators to facilitate training about veteran and military culture and elevate awareness of military-affiliated culture

Administration

  • Document student engagement as appropriate. Process the VA work-study cycle including onboarding training payment processing and weekly meetings.
  • Special Projects and Other Duties as Assigned.
  • Attend after-hours and weekend events throughout the year.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work one-on-one with students
  • Ability to build trust and supervise student veteran staff
  • Ability to interact effectively with GI Bill users
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to collaborate with a team of various University departments
  • Ability to keep accurate and thorough notes
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft suite including Outlook PowerPoint Teams and Word.
  • Must understand the importance of confidentiality

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree or 2 years experience working in an office environment/event management
  • Experience working with student veterans active-duty dependents and reservists.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree.
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience in supervision
  • Knowledge of the concepts of the various chapters of the GI Bill.

Work Schedule

This part-time non-benefited position will work up to 20 hours a week. Total number of hours will not exceed 1000 in a calendar year. Schedule will be discussed with supervisor.

Hourly Range

The hourly range for the position is $21.00-$22.00.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
