Job Description

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director of Wellbeing & Health Equity the Basic Needs Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of various Basic Needs programs and services at Cal Poly. The Basic Needs Coordinator has direct oversight of supporting Cal Polys Basic Needs Initiatives.

The primary purpose of this position is to guide the growth and development of students and help them navigate basic needs resources. The position will develop and deliver campus-wide training programs and outreach while coordinating campus and community partnerships. The coordinator will take the lead in connecting students with essential campus and community resources ensuring access to services such as the Cal Poly Food Pantry the Meal Voucher Program Cal Fresh financial wellness programming the Cal Poly Cares Grant and the Community Food Pantry Garden. As the co-chair of the Basic Needs Taskforce the coordinator will raise awareness and develop strategic initiatives related to student basic needs issues on campus collaborating with various departments across campus and within the community.

Department Summary

The purpose of Campus Health & Wellbeing is to help students achieve and maintain academic success and lifelong health and wellbeing by providing timely and appropriate primary and acute health care disease and injury prevention education professional mental health outreach educational services and campus consultations.

Key Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.
  • General knowledge of the principles practices and trends of student basic needs.
  • General knowledge of individual counseling techniques.
  • Working knowledge of general student services programs on a college campus.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.
  • Ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex studentrelated matters.
  • Ability to determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations analyze and define the problem draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences public or business administration or a jobrelated field. Two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.
  • A masters degree in a jobrelated field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
  • Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the required knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a yearforyear basis.

Licenses Certificates Credentials:

  • Must obtain ServSafe Certification within the first 90 days of hire.

Salary and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Range:$68800 - $77000 Per Year

Classification Range: $66480 - $94716 Per Year

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience skills knowledge abilities education licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Classification Range may be broader than what the University anticipates paying for this position based on internal equity budget and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
