Job Description
Summary:
The Head Debate Coach at West High is responsible for leading the debate team and ensuring that all members are well-trained and prepared for competitions. This position requires strong communication and leadership skills as well as a deep understanding of debate techniques and strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive debate program for students at West High
- Organize and lead regular debate practices and training sessions
- Select and prepare students for debate competitions including researching and choosing appropriate topics and formats
- Provide constructive feedback to students to help them improve their debate skills
- Manage the debate teams budget and resources including fundraising and equipment purchases
- Collaborate with other coaches and teachers to support students academic success
- Maintain accurate records of student participation and progress and communicate regularly with parents and school administrators
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in a related field such as communications political science or education preferred
- Strong knowledge of debate techniques and strategies and experience coaching debate teams
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire students
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
- Ability to work collaboratively with other coaches and teachers to support students academic success
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends for competitions and events
- Ability to pass a background check and meet all state and local requirements for working with students.
