The City is looking for a skilled person to perform manual work functions associated with general maintenance repair landscaping and groundskeeping of parks and recreation facilities and to possess a great work ethic. Serves as a lead worker. Reports to the Parks & Recreation Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Leads trains reviews and directs the work of parks maintenance workers and supervise maintenance activities in support of the Citys parks and recreational facilities.
- Performs a variety of manual semi-skilled and skilled maintenance inspection and repair work of City parks and recreation facilities.
- Maintains athletic fields and related facilities and playground equipment for recreational facilities.
- Maintains parks facilities such as restrooms concession stands picnic shelters and other recreation and park areas; collects and disposes of trash and debris on City Park property.
- Installs maintains and replaces playground equipment and fences; assembles tables benches and bleachers.
- Serves as a leader worker with expertise in skilled work in the maintenance and repair of parks landscapes and facilities.
- Performs ground maintenance to include mowing grass blowing leaves pruningor trimming vegetation pulling weeds sprayingor applyingherbicide andfertilizer loading trimmings onto truck pickingup trash and blowingor sweepingdebris off parking lots and sidewalks and assist with snow removal as season dictates.
- Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery equipment and tools in operable condition.
- Prepares park facilities for special events including parades and recreation-sponsored events.
- Utilizes precautionary safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
- Prepares or completes various forms correspondence reports timecards maintenance reports spray records and other documents.
- Communicates with supervisor employees other departments the public and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities review status of work exchange information or resolve problems.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; supplemented by four (4) years of parks and landscape maintenance experience; with one (1) year of lead work experience; or any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job.
Licenses or Certifications:
Valid State of Georgia Drivers License.
Special Requirements:
Requires an acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and sex offender registry check.
Requires satisfactory results from a pre-employment alcohol and controlled substance testing.
This position is deemed safety-sensitive and is subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of building and park maintenance methods and practices.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn standard cleaning methods turfgrass maintenance practices and operation of equipment used in park maintenance.
- Knowledge of departmental and safety rules and regulations.
- Skill in ability to operate maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment machinery tools and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
- Skill in operating specialized cleaning equipment (e.g. buffer carpet shampoo machine vacuum cleaner cleaning equipment etc.) and various hand tools.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to exchange information for the purpose of clarifying details within well-established policies procedures and standards.
- Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference descriptive and/or advisory data and information.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.
- Ability to exercise judgment decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.
- Ability to identify and eradicate disease or insect damage to plants and turf.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is moderate work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force. Work requires regular and at times sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work typically involving some combination of sitting standing climbing and balancing stooping kneeling crouching and crawling and that may involve the lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors sounds taste odor depth texture and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an outdoor environment. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dirt dust pollen odors wetness humidity rain fumes temperature and noise extremes machinery vibrations electric currents traffic hazards toxic agents disease or pathogenic substances.
