Job Description

Our Warehouse Operation is an impressive state of the art 2.5m square foot Distribution Centre in Shirebrook and one of the most advanced warehouses within the UK. We are currently looking to grow our Warehouse Team with individuals who are obsessed with continuous improvement and innovation.

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Warehouse Automation Controls Specialist to support the design installation maintenance and optimisation of automated systems in our warehouse operations. This role focuses on ensuring that automated machinery and control systems operate efficiently safely and reliably to meet business goals. You will own all on site PLC systems ensuring the equipment is performing to its designed performance and improve where possible. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design program and troubleshoot PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces) VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) and other automation components.
  • Maintain and improve site specific SCADA system for real-time monitoring and control of warehouse automation equipment.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on the PLC side of automated conveyor systems AS/RS (Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems) robotics and control panels.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (engineering operations IT) to support new automation projects and upgrades.
  • Analyse system performance data and execute process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Provide technical support and training for the maintenance staff regarding automation equipment and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards during all automation activities.
  • Document control logic wiring diagrams and change logs for all automation systems.
  • Introduce and lead a robust change management process for any PLC changes/improvements on site ensuring clear communication and process for change is introduced.
     

Qualifications :

What we are looking for:

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Automation Technology Mechatronics or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience working with industrial automation systems preferably in a warehouse or distribution center environment.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming (Siemens Allen-Bradley etc.) and industrial networking.
  • Familiarity with robotics systems sensors actuators and servo motors.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control panel layouts.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours or shifts as required by projects or emergencies

Preference:

  • Experience with WMS (Warehouse Management Systems) and WCS (Warehouse Control Systems) integration.
  • Certifications in automation (e.g. Rockwell Automation Siemens ISA).
