Job Description

Job Summary

$62200 - $97371 / year DOQ Full-Time County Benefits

Performs responsible work maintaining official payroll records issuing pay checks and reconciling payroll reports with the general ledger.

Responsibilities

Prepares and processes semi monthly payroll for the County and fiscal agency employees to include: computes wage and payroll deductions garnishments and retroactive payments.
Reviews all new hires for accuracy related to payroll and calculates final pay for terminating employees.
Prepares ACH payroll withdrawal and coordinates direct deposit function; electronically transmits information and investigates any discrepancies.
Prepares reconciles and files various federal and state tax reports semimonthly; balances reports prepares information for and assists with audits.
Prepares and schedules payments related to employee benefits and fringes.
Prepares all journal entries related to payroll and any adjustments.
Reviews work prepared by the Payroll Specialist for accuracy and completeness and assists in training.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelors degree in accounting or related field; considerable experience in payroll including experience with computerized accounting systems. Experience in processing payroll for governmental entities is preferred.
Must possess reliable transportation to work site(s).
Knowledge of data entry automated financial record keeping systems and various microcomputer software packages; standard office procedures practices and equipment; knowledge of principles methods and practices of accounting tax ledger recording balancing and financial reporting; principles and processes for providing customer service including setting and meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Skill in use of computer software especially Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees and the public; exercise independent judgment and initiative and attention to detail in ensuring proper and timely payments requiring minimal supervision.
