About the role
Enerven are seeking a Principal Protection Engineer to join its design team and lead the delivery of some of Australias most significant renewable energy infrastructure and transmission projects. This exciting portfolio includes the 500MW Liddell BESS the 2.8GWh Eraring BESS and the 500kV Goulburn River Solar Farm connection in New South Wales where Enerven is delivering the critical infrastructure needed to drive Australias renewable energy transition.
As the Principal Protection Engineer you will provide technical leadership guidance mentorship to team members act as a technical authority of protection designs whilst playing a key role in the successful delivery of protection designs across the project portfolio. You will support the Protection Team Lead and contribute expert knowledge across all protection-related deliverables.
Day to day you will be responsible for:
- Leading the development of protection and secondary design standards procedures and templates to improve the efficiency and quality of the Protection team output.
- Work with the broader engineering and delivery team to mitigate delivery risks.
- Maintain strong relationships with other Enerven Engineering discipline leads delivery teams and external resources.
- Lead recruit train and mentor engineers with the support of other engineers within the team.
- This role will primarily be office-based focusing on design tasks. However site involvement and hands-on experience during key stages of project delivery will be required.
- Providing technical engineering advice you will make sound decisions based on technical commercial and contractual requirements and work with internal and external stakeholders.
About you
You will be required to have detailed knowledge of protection and secondary design substation and renewables engineering principles a vast knowledge in HV and UHV transmission protection design network modelling and power engineering fundamentals. You also need to be competent with technical management skills in leading structuring and delivering processes procedures and templates along with estimating skills for engineering.
Specific qualifications and experience required include:
- A bachelors degree in electrical engineering
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng)
- Demonstrated experience in either design leadership or management roles
- Proven experience delivering designs for major transmission utilities (preferably NSW and SA)
- Proficiency in power system modelling and network studies using tools such as ETAP PowerFactory PSCAD or PSSE
- A current and valid drivers licence
