Job Title: Fleet & Facilities Technician (Full-Time)
Location: Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District Carbondale CO

Position Overview:
The Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District is seeking one (1) skilled and dedicated Fleet & Facilities Technician to join our team. This full-time position plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability safety and performance of the Districts emergency response vehicles and mechanical equipment. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Division Chief Fleet & Facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel vehicles including fire apparatus and emergency equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance and safety checks on all fleet vehicles
- Maintain organized and accurate records using computer systems
- Provide emergency roadside assistance when needed
- Prioritize safety and communicate effectively with team members
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Automotive Technician certification from an accredited trade school or university
- ASE certification
- 5 years experience in automotive and/or diesel repair
- Colorado drivers license with a satisfactory driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Associate degree
- ASE medium/heavy truck certifications (T series) or ability to obtain within 18 months
- EVT Certification or ability to obtain within 24 months
Schedule & Compensation:
- This position is full-time Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a one-hour unpaid lunch break. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required based on departmental needs.
- $82130.00 $124879.00 based on qualifications and experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION
A fire department fleet & facilities technician position involves ensuring the reliability safety and performance of the districts emergency response vehicles and mechanical equipment. This position supports emergency response readiness and infrastructure integrity through diagnostics repairs and preventative maintenance. This position works under the supervision of the Division Chief Fleet & Facilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Diagnostics and Repair: Ability to identify and resolve mechanical issues efficiently. Diagnosing and repairing a variety of vehicles and equipment including fire apparatus emergency vehicles and mechanical equipment. Possess a strong understanding of automotive electrical hydraulic and engine systems. Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment. Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Preventative Maintenance: Understanding of gasoline and diesel engines transmissions brakes suspension and other vehicle systems. Perform routine maintenance checks and preventative maintenance procedures according to established schedules.
- Record Keeping: Ability to maintain accurate and organized records of work performed using computer software programs and spreadsheets. Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately. Time management organizational and computer skills.
- Emergency Field Assistance: Provide assistance with vehicle breakdowns or malfunctions in the field if needed.
- Safety Focus: Prioritizing safety in all aspects of maintenance and repair work.
- Equipment Knowledge: Understanding of gasoline and diesel engines transmissions brakes suspension and other vehicle systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors other technicians and members of the fire department. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physical ability to perform tasks requiring lifting bending and standing for extended periods.
- Assists with building and grounds maintenance

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Automotive technician certification from an accredited trade school or university.
- ASE certification
- 5 years of experience in automotive and/or diesel repair.
- Colorado Drivers License with a satisfactory driving record
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors or Associate degree
- ASE medium/heavy truck certifications (T series) or ability to obtain within 18 months
- EVT (emergency vehicle certification) or ability to obtain within 24 months.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- Climbing: Ability to climb ladders scaffolding ability to get into and out of awkward positions tight spaces vehicles and heavy equipment as needed.
- Reaching and Handling: Frequent use of hands and arms to reach overhead grasp tools manipulate small parts and operate machinery.
- Visual and Auditory Acuity: Must have sufficient visual and auditory acuity to safely operate equipment detect warning signals and perform detailed inspections and repairs.
- Manual Dexterity: Fine motor skills required for handling tools small components and using diagnostic equipment.
- Environmental Conditions: Exposure to loud noises vibrations dust fumes hazardous materials and various weather conditions in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Driving: Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and possess or obtain a valid drivers license as required by the district.
