Job Description

Position Summary:

The Associate Director of Community Living supports critical programmatic and operational functions within the Residence Life department through administrative (office-based) and outreach (student-facing) duties primarily via oversight of the main office; project management that supports the on-campus Community oversight of the day-to-day operations of five residence halls housing approximately 1200 students; implementation of Divisional Curriculum and management of student conduct. Through these roles the AD supports the achievement of Residence Lifes mission and strategic goals.

Associate Director of Community Living

Position: Western Colorado University invites applications for the full-time position of Associate Director of Community Living. The position reports to the Director of Residence Life works closely with the Department of Residence Life the Division of Student Affairs other campus stakeholders and student leaders in various capacities and is responsible for administrative (office-based) and outreach (student-facing) duties encompassing oversight of the main department office; project management of programming and operations that support the on-campus community; coordination with department staff and other stakeholders to support student success and well-being; implementation of Divisional Curriculum and other programming efforts; and management of the campus student conduct system. This is an in-person position with a physical workspace provided on campus.

Responsibilities: The Associate Director of Community Living is responsible for management of year-round department initiatives and projects including operational (e.g. move-in days room inspections key audits) and programmatic (e.g. programming curriculum staff trainings staff recruitment and recognition) and oversight of the campus conduct system. This position will also collaborate heavily with internal and external stakeholders to best work toward identified student outcomes. The person in this position will directly supervise the Administrative Assistant III and directly or indirectly supervise a team of student Office Assistants. They also will be heavily involved in all aspects of the recruitment selection and recognition of all department student leaders.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree; three (3) years of full-time Community support and project management; experience with the supervision of student and/or professional staff members; demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity and creation of inclusive communities; demonstrated ability to take initiative; effective written and oral communication skills including creative and interactive presentation experience; effective organizational and administrative skills; ability to analyze problems and make well-reasoned sound decisions; demonstrated ability to teach program and/or present on job-related topics; ability to foster collaborative collegial relationships with housing and Residence Life staff members and campus constituencies.

Preferred Qualifications: Masters degree in College Student Personnel Higher Education Administration Counseling Behavioral Science or a closely related discipline; knowledge background and experience with a comprehensive housing and residence life program that includes hall staffing and curriculum operations and facilities; demonstrated skill in managing difficult situations involving students parents staff faculty and community members; five (5) years of full-time experience managing an office or function in or related to student affairs. Experience managing housing database softwarepreferably StarRez.

Compensation: $57000 annual base salary. This position is FLSA exempt. Western offers an excellent benefits package including shared premiums for a comprehensive health insurance plan dental insurance retirement plan life insurance and other insurance options. After one year of employment Western provides free tuition for dependents enrolled full time in undergraduate programs for up to four years. Additionally the person in this role receives a department-sponsored dining plan.
