Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors or Masters degree in English Education or a related field. Must hold or be eligible to hold a Virginia Teaching License with specific endorsement(s) in the area to which assigned. Prior experience teaching English tohigh school students is preferred. Strong knowledge of English language arts curriculum and instructional strategies. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Passion for fostering an appreciation and understanding of literature and language in young learners. Strong classroom management and communication skills. Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Familiarity with educational technology tools for English Language Arts instruction.

DESCRIPTION

TheHigh School English Language Arts Teacher is a dedicated and dynamic educator responsible for inspiring an appreciation for literature language and effective communication inhigh school students. This role involves creating engaging lessons fostering critical thinking skills and cultivating a positive and inclusive learning environment.

GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)

  • Develop lessons and implement a comprehensive English curriculum that aligns with state standards emphasizing reading comprehension writing skills grammar and literary analysis.
  • Deliver engaging and student-centered lessons that cater to diverse learning styles promoting active participation and a deep understanding of the English language.
  • Introduce students to a variety of literary genres authors and cultures fostering a love for reading and critical analysis of texts.
  • Guide students in the development of effective writing skills including essay composition creative writing and research projects.
  • Integrate language arts components such as vocabulary building and grammar seamlessly into the curriculum to enhance overall language proficiency.
  • Provide one-on-one assistance and differentiated instruction to address the diverse academic needs of students ensuring each student can achieve their full potential.
  • Design and administer assessments to measure student progress and comprehension providing constructive feedback to support ongoing development.
  • Incorporate technology tools and resources to enhance instruction encourage digital literacy and engage students in interactive learning experiences.
  • Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect collaboration and a passion for learning.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents regarding student progress upcoming assignments and opportunities for parent involvement in their childs education.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.

SUPERVISION

Work is performed under the supervision of the School Principal.

WORK CONDITIONS

Duties performed are typically in the school setting. Performs professional work providing support and consultative services for assigned department/program. Work requires frequent standing sitting walking and light lifting. Some assignments are subject to deadlines inherent in tailoring and delivering programs to meet the needs of diverse groups. Some assignments may involve exposure to risks associated with interactions with parents and students in heightened emotional states. Employees may be required to perform emergency and non-emergency health-related services for students as needed.

CONTRACT LENGTH

200 Days

The salary for this position applies to candidates who are properly licensed and endorsed in the areas for which they teach.

CONSIDERING A FUTURE IN TEACHING
If you hold a bachelors degree and are willing to commit and take steps toward earning your teaching license you may be eligible for an Associate Teacher position. Associate Teachers serve in full teaching roles while receiving support and guidance as they work toward licensure. The Associate Teacher salary for 202526 is approximately $48265 (pending budget approval).
