Job Description

Hi were Oscar. Were hiring a Director Technical Accounting to join our Accounting team.

About the role

The Director Technical Accounting would lead our technical accounting work. You will work cross-functionally to understand and to provide technical accounting guidance on new or complex transactions and corresponding financial disclosures. You will promote accounting policies and ensure policies reflect current practices and operations of the business and are up-to-date and compliant with existing and newly adopted accounting standards and regulations.

You will report to the Chief Accounting Officer through the Deputy Controller.

Work Location:

Oscar is a blended work culture where everyone regardless of work type or location feels connected to their teammates our culture and our mission.

If you live within commutable distance to our New York City office (in Hudson Square) our Tempe office (off the 101 at University Dr) or our Los Angeles office (in Marina Del Rey) you will be expected to come into the office at least two days each week. Otherwise this is a remote / work-from-home role.

Pay Transparency:

The base pay for this role in the states of California Connecticut New Jersey New York and Washington is: $174400 - $228900 per year. The base pay for this role in all other locations is: $156960 - $206010 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits participation in Oscars unlimited vacation program company equity grants and annual performance bonuses.

Responsibilities

  • Lead our technical accounting work required under US GAAP and statutory reporting and partner with the Tax Team to ensure tax aspects are considered.
  • Work with teams and external partners and/or consultants to:
    • Provide technical accounting expertise to support new transactions and evolving business arrangements and
    • Prepare technical accounting analysis on complex accounting issues.
  • Create our accounting policies.
  • Oversee and apply new accounting pronouncements applicable to the Company.
  • Work with our external auditors on technical accounting matters.
  • Help review financial disclosures in SEC and statutory filings related to our accounting policies and effect of new accounting pronouncements.
  • Develop relationships with teams to understand broad our goals and provide accounting guidance and best practice recommendations to promote process improvements.
  • Perform ad-hoc technical accounting research to support special projects.
  • Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field or 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant licensure (CPA).
  • 2 years of experience with US-based insurance companies.
  • 2 years of practical experience in financial reporting.

Bonus Points

  • Experience in a similar position at a health insurance company.
  • Experience leading people and working collaboratively across the organization.
  • 4 years of experience with US-based insurance companies.
  • 4 years of practical experience in financial reporting.
  • 6 year in public accounting
