As a Communications Advisor you will be instrumental in developing and executing comprehensive communications plans and strategies. You will be responsible for crafting a wide array of communication materials including social media content speeches newsletters media activities videos and photos to effectively convey information and enhance the Citys reach and impact.
What will you do
- Develop and implement short- and long-range internal and external communications strategies to support client groups aligning with corporate messaging and departmental business goals
- Lead or collaborate on the development of communications strategies and pitch creative communications concepts
- Deliver ongoing effective communications support to projects ensuring accurate and timely information sharing with the public and employees
- Create edit review coordinate and manage a variety of communications products including integrated marketing communications plans news releases web content social media content and more
- Identify emerging projects and implement strategies to effectively position the City with both internal and external audiences
- Propose and plan communications activities to share information promote public engagement and enhance the Citys reputation
- Provide timely and responsive issues management
- Draft key messages and speaking notes for the City Manager and Chief of Staff
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external audiences including cross-functional teams media representatives and City Council staff
- Support the culture and operations of the branch by being a collaborative team member and maintaining respectful relationships with colleagues

- Degree in a communications public relations or related field supplemented by a minimum of two years progressively responsible experience in a designated public relations public affairs or public information position OR
- Diploma in a communications public relations or related field supplemented by a minimum of four years progressively responsible experience in a designated public relations public affairs or public information position
Assets:
- Experience working in a large diverse organization
- Knowledge of and/or experience working on employee experience and organizational culture initiatives
- Familiarity with City of Edmonton corporate brand guidelines and policies
Skills required for success:
- Experience working with advertising printing and graphic design professionals
- Experience developing traditional media social media visuals and other web-based communications materials
- Experience supporting effective public engagement activities
- Demonstrated experience in successfully creating developing implementing and evaluating communication plans
- Demonstrated experience with traditional media relations
- Demonstrated proficiency in Google Suite Google Applications and Gmail is required
- Demonstrated experience related to project management and communicating with stakeholder groups
- Strong skills in identifying and managing issues
- Proven client consulting and relationship-building skills
- Demonstrated superior written and verbal communication and presentation skills
