Job Description

Position Description:

The IEP Coordinator is responsible for the training of special education teachers and/or paraprofessionals and monitoring of the IEP process.

Scope of Responsibility:

  • Reviews educational records and all pertinent information to ensure appropriate IEP content.
  • Facilitates IEP conferences for identified students with disabilities entering alternative schools in the Jefferson Parish Schools.
  • Prepares disseminates and provides Professional Development on FAPE/LRE SER and IEP guidelines to special education staff and school personnel.
  • Assists in monitoring of IEPs.
  • Monitors IEPs of all ED classified special education students.
  • Consults with and supports SPED teachers with the development of IEPs.
  • Plans organizes and oversees ESY (in conjunction with Coordinator of ESY).
  • Provides support to all SPED service providers and administrators in regards to federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Assists in the collection of compliance data for the IDEA and MFP counts.
  • Monitors compliance reports on a monthly basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of IDEA Executive Director of Compliance and Pupil Appraisal or the Chief of Schools.

Skills and Qualifications:

We seek detail-oriented independent self-starters who demonstrate an unwavering commitment to raising student achievement and who have a record of high performance in challenging situations. Successful candidates will also demonstrate and/or possess:

  • Louisiana certification in Mild/Moderate Generic or Severe Profound.
  • 5 years teaching experience.
  • Strong communication skills in multiple settings and the ability to be an engaging change agent and culture-creator that can inspire and motivate.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to make decisions and recommendations.
  • High degree of professionalism with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities while consistently demonstrating sound judgment and disciplined thinking.
  • Extensive knowledge of Federal and State Laws and Regulations regarding IEP development and placement.
  • Proficient in Excel Word Power Point and Google Docs.
  • Knowledge of SER and Individualized Education Process.
  • Ability to write compliant IEPS and facilitate IEP conferences.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Masters degree required.
  • Knowledge of regular and special education curriculum and LEAP Connect testing.
  • Advanced degree.
  • Knowledge of A/BIT and 504.

Physical Involvement:

Sitting is required part of each workday. Must be able to operate office equipment. Standing walking reaching bending lifting up to 10 pounds is sometimes required. Ability to provide own transportation to schools work locations and meeting sites. Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations.
