Research Development OfficeKey Roles and Responsibilities:
Oversees the planning implementation and coordination of major projects center grants including multi-site sponsored by industry government non-profit foundations or private organizations
Responsible for the support of the proposal implementation of complex program project basic and clinical research and contracts in collaboration with faculty using discretion and independent judgment to make decisions that impact the successful management of grant and contract
Oversee the pre-award grant process including all the development of sponsored programs grant applications tracking of applications coordinating submissions and identifying potential funding opportunities for KUMC research faculty.
Oversee the post-award grant process including researching clarifying and interpreting the practices requirements and providing guidance of both the sponsor and University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) and convey this information to research faculty in a clear and concise manner.
Preforms and oversees grant management including financial monitoring and reporting for each award while maintaining compliance of sponsor KUMC and the State of Kansas guidelines. This includes assisting faculty with progress reports for awarded grants; specifically this position assists research faculty funded by NIH with completing the Research Progress Report (RPPR) review and edit manuscripts
Managing the department effort certification for faculty with federal funding and for tracking cost share commitments; coordinating efforts with others to stay compliant.
Oversees manages evaluates and monitors performance of direct reports - develops annual target goals for supporting staff - meets regularly and provides feedback to staff on goals and accomplishments in performance evaluations.
Facilitate proposal development for large grant proposals; oversee budget development for large grant proposals.
Manage the development implementation and administration of Investigator Initiated Clinical Trials. This includes working with the research investigator to create the protocol specifics adherence to accruals monitoring efficacy and closure of study.
Manage internal and external Clinical Trials this includes working with senior project team to develop recruitment materials survey instruments intervention materials and tracking systems collaborating with subcontractors organizing drafting and editing IRB applications modifications and annual renewals.
Stay current and monitor the research for compliance with all grant and clinical compliance internal and external policies and compliance regulations for federal funding.
Oversee research staffs compliance with relevant privacy regulation including HIPAA human research ethics policies and data confidentiality.
Develop Standard Operating Procedures for research data collection delivery of interventions contact with participants and subcontractors and other research activities.
Oversee implementation of protocol changes; critically evaluate and interpret study methods and results; lead efforts to modify and revise as needed.
Review work performed by subcontractors collaborators and consultants to maintain communication and ensure conformance to project protocols.
Develop and maintain organizational structure of research projects; develop and maintain adherence to project timelines and protocols.
Oversee the organization and implementation of data collection including data transfers editing cleaning and analyzing.
Develop organizational staffing plans and assure that employees with the appropriate education experience and skills are hired onboarded trained supervised have individual goals and development plans; receive annual performance evaluations and where necessary implement appropriate employee discipline.

Required Qualifications
Education:
Bachelors degree plus 5 years work experience OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience.
Work Experience:
Two years experience in Project Management
Two years experience in Grant Management
Experience in design implementation or support of multi-site studies or investigator-initiated clinical trial
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Masters Public Health Masters Research Administration
Work Experience:
5 years experience in Project Management
3 years experience in large clinical unit within academia or research administration

At the University of Kansas Medical Center a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
