uOttawas facilities encompass three main sites that are comprised of over 600000 square meters of building space (over 6.4 million square feet) 42.5 hectares of grounds 125 buildings and 4500 beds in 11 residences. There are over 150 employees in Facilities including Project Managers Energy and Commissioning Specialists Mechanical and Electrical Engineers Architects and space Planners. The facilities capital and operating expenditures are in the range of $100M for the Universitys $2.0 billion assets under management. The 20-year Capital spending plan envisions $4.0 billion of new investment highlighted by uOttawa launch of project Top Shelf a $300 million capital investment to build a new facility for the Faculty of Health Sciences at uOttawas River Campus as well as a tower at the Roger Guidon campus to house uOttawas new Advanced Medical Research Center (AMRC).

Position Purpose


The incumbent is responsible to develop manage and maintain high-quality wayfinding and signage standards across campus. This role ensures consistency in design compliance with regulations and alignment with university branding while supporting various stakeholders in planning and implementing signage solutions. You will collaborate with Facilities and other University stakeholders to ensure signage reflects the universitys visual identity and strategic objectives.

In this role your responsibilities will include:

  • Technical Expertise: Develop and maintain campus-wide signage and wayfinding standards. Provide expert guidance on design solutions that balance functionality and aesthetics. Prepare technical drawings specifications and procurement documents.
  • Operational Performance Management: Oversee signage installations to ensure compliance with design standards regulations and project plans. Identify and address issues post-installation coordinating follow-ups with suppliers and stakeholders. Ensure renovations and refurbishments meet signage requirements budgets and deadlines. Manage project timelines budgets and resources to ensure successful completion of wayfinding projects.
  • Customer Service & Collaboration: Work closely with internal clients (planning project managers development and communications offices) to assess wayfinding needs and provide tailored solutions. Support project managers in implementing room numbering and signage strategies. Present design proposals using various software to university stakeholders ensuring their needs are met while adhering to university branding guidelines.
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance: Conduct site inspections to verify compliance with university standards and regulations. Manage campus map updates and oversee production of regulatory signage in compliance with provincial and municipal regulations (e.g. evacuation plans emergency/fire equipment identification stairwell signage). Ensure installations align with as-built plans and technical documentation.
  • Training of Staff: Training internal Facilities and Facility Management staff on the procedures and processes to request and acquire signage utilizing various software tools.

What you will bring:

  • Post-secondary degree in Architectural Technology or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in architecture interior design or signage.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Building Code City of Ottawa regulations and construction site safety.
  • Experience with project management budgeting and contract administration.
  • Proficiency in:AutoCAD Adobe Creative Suite BlueBeam Revu MS Office Google Sketchup Archibus
  • Implementing and training staff on signage asset software
  • Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills
  • Bilingualism (French and English) oral and written expression

This policy was suspended effective May 1 2022 but may be reinstated at any point in the future depending on public health guidelines and the recommendations of experts.
