SUMMARY:
Coordinate assignments and schedules of bus drivers routes and vehicles to ensure safe efficient and economical transportation services.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED
Three years experience as certified Dispatcher
EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED
Three years experience as Dispatcher
CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Texas commercial drivers license.

- Ability to speak clearly.
- Ability to use radio communication equipment computer and intercom system.
- Effective telephone and communication skills. Ability to receive and give verbal instructions effectively.
- Ability to pass alcohol and drug test.
- Proficient map reading skills.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with students staff and the school community.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Routes and Schedules
- Assist or handle assignments of bus drivers bus routes vehicles and substitutes for morning and afternoon shifts.
- Assist with or coordinate extracurricular transportation.
- Prepare data required to plan bus routes and post route schedule.
- Prepare special education bus routes and ensure that drivers maintain a route folder with accurate descriptions of their morning and afternoon routes.
- Coordinate and schedule all summer school routes.
- Prepare and update district maps showing areas served by each bus. Supply maps to schools.
- Write schedule and keep regular routes up to date in computer.
Communication
- Dispatch drivers and vehicles and communicate with them using a telephone and two-way radio.
- Notify drivers parents and school personnel of any changes in a students bus service such as an address change change in pick-up and drop-off location change in time or bus change.
- Maintain good public relations with students and school personnel.
- Communicate with students parents staff and community about their complaints with drivers buses routes and safety.
- Communicate with drivers about problems or concerns they have with parents students teachers and coworkers.
- Interact with special program administrators and school officials concerning transportation of special education students.
- Help school place new students on buses and advise drivers of new or dismissed students.
Vehicle Operation
- Handle driving and safety records of all new applicants.
Reports and Records
- Maintain mileage records on all bus routes and travel.
- Keep logs on fuel dispensing.
- Maintain log book and record of head count to facilitate writing copying and distribution of change notices to transportation personnel and schools.
- Keep a log book and record all special education two-way radio transmissions.
- Maintain records on all drivers including extracurricular drivers pertaining to physical driver certification and license check.
- Maintain pertinent documentation on all special education students.
- Prepare various reports as required by the state district or department.
- Post trips in trip book and send out confirmations.
- Maintain logs on communication with pertinent personnel regarding confirmations cancellations and changes.
Other
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in staff meetings and special events as assigned.
- Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work meetings and appointments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations to administrators teachers peers students parents and the school community.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.
While performing the duties of this job repetitive hand motions are required of this employee. The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms; and frequently required to stand walk sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls and climb or balance. Moderate stooping bending kneeling crouching crawling and lifting is required of this employee. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and peripheral vision. The employee needs to be able to tell where a sound is coming from and hear in a noisy environment.
The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Early shift work is required of this employee. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
