JOB TITLE: Nutrition Partnerships Officer
TYPE OF CONTRACT: Consultant level II
SERVICE/DIVISION: PPGN Nutrition and Food Quality Service
DUTY STATION (City Country): Rome Italy
DURATION: 6 months until 31 December 2025

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

WFPs Nutrition and Food Quality Service (PPGN) manages several strategic partnerships including with UN agencies NGO actors civil society businesses and academia as well as private sector and communities. Under the terms set forth below the Nutrition Partnerships Officer will report to the Senior Nutrition Partnerships Officer and work closely with the relevant teams in the Service with other Divisions and WFP staff in Global Teams (GHQ) regional offices and country offices (CO) as well as with other external partners and stakeholders.

In line with the WFP Nutrition Strategy the incumbent will strengthen current and future strategic partnerships with key stakeholders to further WFPs nutrition efforts around its strategic priorities and objectives.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES/DELIVERABLES:

Lead on strengthening UN coordination on nutrition at the technical level through existing mechanisms and fora in support of WFPs corporate commitments:

  • Engage with partners under the UN Nutrition umbrella to support the strengthening of UN coordination on nutrition. Advise the Director of PPGN Service in her capacity as a UN Nutrition Steering Committee member and proactively support a wide range of aspects of the partnership with UN Nutrition;
  • Proactively highlight strategic opportunities and provide guidance to the Service on the implementation of inter-agency partnership frameworks (e.g. RBAs MoU) and on the collaboration with other UN Nutrition members (e.g. WHO);
  • Proactively support partnerships efforts and strategic engagements around the local food solutions agenda including with the RBAs and through other relevant platforms (e.g. HDSFS Coalition).

Lead WFPs technical engagement in multilateral multistakeholder partnerships for nutrition in support of WFPs corporate commitments:

  • Ensure WFPs role as a key partner to the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement including by providing technical guidance and inputs to SUN processes (e.g. development of SUN 4.0) as well as through providing assistance to the WFPs ED in her role as member of the SUN Lead Group;
  • Ensure WFPs work on nutrition is adequately represented in the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) key processes and workstreams including the 2025 Plenary Session (CFS 53);
  • Lead and guide WFPs engagement in the Healthy Diets from Sustainable Food Systems Coalition (HDSFS) and identify opportunities to champion and repurpose WFPs work and expertise on fragility and humanitarian settings in support of the activities and objectives of the HDSFS Coalition;
  • Support follow-up processes to the 2025 Nutrition for Growth in conjunction with other teams within PPGN;
  • At the technical level support WFPs commitment to and role in the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty;

Lead provide guidance and implement efforts aiming at strengthening partnerships with civil society organizations for better nutrition outcomes:

  • In collaboration with colleagues from the Nutrition Service as well as the Operational Partners Unit identify opportunities to improve current partnerships with cooperating partners and strengthen the implementation of nutrition operations at country level in contribution to the Management response to the recommendations in the synthesis of evidence and lessons on WFPs cooperating partners evaluations;

Lead on other partnerships efforts and strengthen strategic engagements in various fora and platforms as needed:

  • Play an advisory role when required to further any additional partnership and advocacy efforts at global regional and country-level as appropriate;
  • Support strategic engagements in other relevant platforms (e.g. IFNA RBAs Friends of Nutrition etc.) and multistakeholder efforts on nutrition (e.g. with private sector financial institutions etc.) as needed;
  • Lead the preparation of events conferences and meetings on nutrition (i.e. UN Food Systems Summit Stocktaking CFS side events local food solution webinars) in support of WFPs Nutrition Strategy;
  • Facilitate corporate dialogue with relevant partners through preparation of quality briefing materials and talking points and proactively highlight strategic opportunities to nurture trust and interest in the work of WFP;
  • Draft and/or review strategic documents reports briefs.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education:

  • A minimum of a bachelors degree in disciplines such as public health nutrition food security economics political science international relations sociology anthropology or any other related field. A masters degree will be considered an asset.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience with progressively increasing responsibilities in partnerships project design and management multi-stakeholder/multi-sectoral coordination communications and advocacy.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Ability to work in a team and establish effective working relations with persons of different national and cultural backgrounds;
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills to engage with various stakeholders from different sectors and backgrounds;
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and coordinate with multiple stakeholders on tight deadlines;
  • Good planning and analytical skills and ability to juggle competing priorities successfully and to work under tight deadline;
  • Self-motivated and ability to work under minimal supervision.

Languages:

  • Level C2 English language proficiency is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language would be considered an asset.
