School Nurse Vacancy - Matapeake Middle School
JOB SUMMARY:
Using clinical knowledge and judgment the school nurse provides health care to students and staff performs health screenings and coordinates referrals.
qualifications:
1. Must Possess a Maryland RN License.
2. Two or more years of experience working in a school setting or equivalent experience preferred.
Responsibilities:
1. Assists in the development of Emergency Care Plan for the school according to local policy and regulations.
2. Implements a comprehensive school health program for students and staff.
3. Collects health status data systematically records data on student health record and interprets data by comparing it to norms and standards.
4. Conducts health appraisals through health screenings interviews observations and review of health records and reports.
5. Develops implements and evaluates an individualized health care plan for students with identified health needs.
6. Notifies appropriate persons on positive findings from health appraisals and screening programs.
7. Identifies assesses and provides health follow-up on conditions which may interfere with learning.
8. Interprets health information and medical reports to school personnel family and students as appropriate.
9. Conducts NSG assessments and renders first aid/NSG care accordingly.
10. Implements the medication policy.
11. Monitors compliance of students with current immunization and communicable disease regulation.
12. Consults with the building administrator in the interpretation of laws regulations and policies regarding communicable diseases to school personnel pupils and parents.
13. Maintains health room facilities supplies and equipment.
14. Consults with the school administrator regarding the enforcement of disease control/prevention policies.
15. Instructs and supervises staff in performing special health procedures.
16. Identifies students and families in need of health counseling.
17. Provides health counseling and referrals to students families and/or groups in health related matters.
18. Provides leadership and guidance regarding accident prevention and environmental health.
19. Confers with the individual involved in an accident and appropriate school personnel regarding preventive measures and corrective action.
20. Analyzes accident reports to determine causes and location of accidents.
21. Provides direct and indirect health instruction during the performance of health guidance.
22. Acts as a resource person in health education to school personnel.
23. Participates as a member of interdisciplinary teams and committees.
24. Plans with school administrator and parent/teacher organizations for health education programs based on identified needs.
25. Promotes optimal level of health and wellness and assists students/staff to be competent self directed consumers of health services.
26. Participates in the evaluation of the Health Services Program at the local school level by collecting maintaining and analyzing school health data.
27. Other duties as assigned by the building administrator.
Pay and Hours:
This is a full-time10 month position with a minimum of 35 hours per weekSupport Unit I Agreement. Full benefit package available.
