Job Description

Job Title:

School Food Service Assistant Manager

Division/ Department:

Reports to:

Food Service Director

Function:

To assist the manager in serving and preparing high quality nutritious appealing food in a clean and pleasant environment by food service professionals who care about the health and welfare of children.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • One year of experience in cafeteria or restaurant management or in bookkeeping desired; computer and basic mathematical skills required
  • Able to stand and walk most of the day reach bend and safely move items
  • Managerial qualities required
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Perform managerial duties in the absence of the manager
  • Perform any job in the kitchen that needs to be done. Fill in where needed
  • Assist manager in carrying out the standards of state and federal regulations and policies of the school board
  • Keep records of participation and receipts for the manager
  • Make consistent and firm decisions
  • Maintain high degree of accuracy in mathematics and job responsibilities
  • Asist in preparing meals for students
  • Continue reading and training as needed to work in school food service
  • Know how all equipment is operated cleaned and serviced; trains and schedules operators in use and care
  • Know Food Safety Plan and HAACP standards and insures procedures are followed
  • Create and maintain a spirit of teamwork among food service staff
  • Maintain a cooperative relationship with school faculty and service staff
  • Endeavor to increase participation in the School Meals Program
  • Operate serving line and check out in a prompt courteous and efficient manner
  • Use a computer to maintain financial records and to communicate
  • Answer the telephone in a professional manner
  • Perform any task in the kitchen when it is necessary
  • Supervisor may assign other duties as needed
