Job Summary

The Assistant Director of the Office of Academic Intervention provides operational leadership for student intervention programs ensuring effective program management student engagement and retention-focused initiatives. This position supervises the Peer Mentor Program manages the Success Hubs organizes student success events coordinates intervention workshops and collaborates with campus partners to support student persistence and retention. Additionally the Assistant Director assigns caseloads to Peer Mentors ensures the proper implementation of intervention programs within the Learning Management System (LMS) and assists the Director in executing strategic initiatives.

Job Duties

  • Reports to the Director of the Office of Academic Intervention.
  • Supervises and manages the Peer Mentor Program ensuring mentors are effectively trained assigned caseloads and actively engaged with students.
  • Oversees the Success Hubs ensuring they are properly staffed and providing quality support to students.
  • Organizes and leads the Saluqi Scholars Convocation (Fall and Spring) and the First-Gen Celebration during the week of November 8 in collaboration with Student Leadership and Engagement Advising and Career Services.
  • Coordinates all intervention workshops including time management study skills and academic success strategies.
  • Works with Distance Learning to enroll students in Learning Management System (Brightspace D2L)-based support programs.
  • Liaises with Financial Aid to ensure a percentage of Peer Mentors are funded through Federal Work Study.
  • Serves as the departments primary liaison with Distance Learning and the Instructional Design Coordinator to manage and improve intervention program shells in Brightspace D2L.
  • Collaborates with TN Achieves and the First Gen Forward Network to support first-time freshmen and improve student retention outcomes.
  • Coordinates QEP-aligned student success workshops to reinforce academic skills self-advocacy and resource navigation.
  • Works with Admissions Academic Advising Career Services Marketing Student Leadership and Engagement and Student Advocacy and Support to enhance intervention programming.
  • Assists the Director in administrative programmatic and strategic planning duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree.
  • Three (3) years of progressive experience in student success academic intervention retention programming or student support services.
  • Experience coordinating programming workshops and large-scale events.
  • Experience supervising student leaders mentors or peer programs.
  • Demonstrated experience managing student success initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Higher Education Administration Counseling Student Affairs Educational Leadership or a related field.
  • Experience working in a community college setting or with vulnerable student populations.
  • Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) systems particularly Slate.
  • Experience managing case assignments in a CRM platform.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management System (LMS) administration for student support programs.
  • Knowledge of student retention best practices and academic success interventions.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Strong program and event management skills including large-scale student engagement initiatives.
  • Ability to train supervise and mentor Peer Mentors.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills to work across departments.
  • Proficiency in planning and facilitating workshops focused on student success strategies.
  • Experience managing student work-study programs and liaising with Financial Aid.
  • Ability to assess student engagement data and adjust programs for effectiveness.
  • Experience coordinating student success events and milestone celebrations.
