Manages the 293000 square foot Student Recreation & Wellness Center (SRWC) at MSU including the multi-sport courts racquetball courts fitness & weight room track and multipurpose rooms; manages the policies and procedures risk management budgets staffing and training for the SRWC; secures maintains purchases and inventories equipment and supplies in conjunction with RSFS administration; develops policies and procedures related to the evaluation of unit facilities and equipment; recommends necessary equipment and supply purchases as needed; assists in the development of replacement and preventative maintenance plans for all equipment and supplies to minimize downtime and ensure recreation equipment reliability; oversee the diagnosis troubleshooting and repair of equipment issues including fitness machines; ensures all equipment is maintained at the RSFS facilities; hires trains supervises and evaluates approximately 60- 100 student employees; oversee all student employee development and continuing education efforts to ensure all student employees are compliant with safety and risk management practices; conducts regular staff meetings with student employees; ensures compliance with all industrys safety and risk management practices facility inspections and established MSU policies and procedures; tracks and reports SWRC facility counts including entries tours and event participation; manages the facility master schedule reservation and solicitation process and risk management plans for RSFS facilities; assists with coordinating program strategic planning including data collection and forecast for major facility and program expansions; co-manages and coordinates facility reservation process of all recreation and academic spaces within facility; oversees facility memberships in collaboration with Member Services staff; assists student employees with recreation software; generates requests and processes service requests for all RSFS facilities; works with Campus Operations on university facility initiatives; assists in Risk Management assessment of RSFS facilities; track and compile information and data in conjunction with biweekly mid-year and yearly reports. Utilize information to develop policies procedures and strategic goals for RSFS; coordinate and prioritize maintenance activities to align with operational goals; maintain accurate records of maintenance activities inspections and equipment performance; identifies opportunities to improve maintenance processes and enhance equipment performance; collaborates with other departments to align maintenance efforts with broader organizational objectives; review in conjunction with the supervising Associate Director for Operations matters relating to fees supervision budget and fiscal and programmatic responsibilities; enforces and maintains RSFS policies and procedures as they pertain to usage of facilities relative to RSFS facilities; fosters a safe and productive work environment emphasizing teamwork and accountability; serves on departmental divisional or University committees as assigned; assists with special projects that support the overall mission of RSFS as assigned.
All positions in RHS are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure modification or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency conditions you will be expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. Knowledge equivalent to that which normally is acquired by completing one or two years of post-Bachelors degree work such as a Masters degree in Business Administration Parks & Recreation Sports Management Kinesiology Exercise Science Health & Physical Education or a related field; one to three years experience in facility management recreation services and fitness equipment repair and maintenance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Three to five years experience in facility management recreation services and fitness equipment repair and maintenance; extensive knowledge of safety standards and best practices for recreational equipment; proficiency with equipment diagnostic tools; certification in CPR First Aid or similar emergency response training; familiar with adaptive recreation equipment and technology; strong knowledge of ADA standards and adaptive recreation practices; proven leadership experience with the ability to supervise and motivate diverse teams; excellent communication and organizational skills; proficiency in scheduling and project management.
