A. POSITION PURPOSE

The Synodality Program Manager for the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University (JST-SCU) plays an important role in the implementation of programming related to Synodality which is an important component of the schools strategic plan. The Synodality Program Manager reports to the Senior Assistant Dean and supports programming efforts developed by the Faculty Synodality Lead.

The student body is comprised of lay people Jesuits and others who are advancing their academic and ministerial skills. Students include Catholic and non-Catholic people who are attracted to JST by the schools emphasis on culturally contextualized theology in an international community with a vibrant sense of fellowship mutual respect inquiry and academic excellence. In addition the school serves non-matriculating students through various workshops and certificate programs.

The Jesuit School of Theology (JST) is part of Santa Clara University (SCU) a Catholic Jesuit school the main campus of which is located in the Silicon Valley. JST-SCU is a graduate school of theology and ministry located in Berkeley currently located two blocks north of the University of California campus. The JST-SCUs campus consists of an academic and administrative building and three nearby apartment buildings for students all within three blocks of each other. JST-SCU shares degree programs faculty financial resources library and cross registration with member schools of an interchurch and interfaith consortium of theology and ministry schools the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) headquartered in our neighborhood.

The position will begin on July 1 2025 and is a 3-year fixed-term role which is possibly renewable based on future funding and programming needs.

B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Massive Online Open Courses

- Collaborate with SCU partners including but not limited to the Office of Information Technology (IT) and University Marketing and Communication (UMC) to understand university standards policies and processes.

- Build launch and oversee the platform to offer MOOCs in accordance with university standards policies and processes.

-Publish and maintain synodality-focused MOOCs using content provided by the Faculty Synodality Lead and other faculty.

- Build and maintain additional MOOCs that advance the mission of JST-SCU.

2. Synodality Programming

-Design implement and evaluate JST-SCU-sponsored Synodality programming.

-Manage and implement the day-to-day administrative logistics associated with synodality-related programming.

-Provide staff representation and support on behalf of JST-SCU for any university-sponsored Synodality programming events and activities.

3. General Administration

-Write and submit annual reports for existing grants related to Synodality.

-Initiate and actively participate in the creation of new grant funding requests related to Synodality.

-Oversee and manage the implementation of any Synodality-related budgets.

-Participate in the JST-SCU building coverage program.

4. Other Duties as Assigned

-Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.

-Contribute to the welcoming environment of JST-SCU by being present and responsive during regular business hours in the office.

-Work some evening and weekend hours as needed for events and special projects.

C. GENERAL GUIDELINES

Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services. Identifies and determines causes of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices. Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools; planned training and performance initiatives. Uses independent judgment to research and develop resources that create timely and efficient workflow. Establishes work flow and manages projects independently: prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals. Ensures completeness accuracy and timeliness of all operational

functions.

D. QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The items below are representative of the knowledge skills abilities education and experience required or preferred.

This position requires the ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment.

1. Knowledge

-Demonstrated knowledge of the literature history and processes of Synodality in the global Catholic Church.

-Demonstrated familiarity with programs (academic and pastoral) of Synodality in the Catholic Church.

-Deep familiarity with and experience in the design roll-out and evaluation of MOOCs on Synodality.

2. Skills

-Effective written and oral presentation skills in different contexts and with diverse audiences.

-Experience creating MOOCs.

-Effective interpersonal skills: ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse individuals and groups that have differing levels of knowledge and skills.

-Administrative skills including grant writing and budget management; monitoring evaluation and learning.

-Networking skills to build partnerships and relationships with other programs of Synodality in the Catholic Church.

-Curiosity to continually learn and grow.

3. Abilities

-Ability to work independently and on multiple projects.

-Ability to work collaboratively.

-Ability to plan organize and prioritize duties and effectively manage processes related to those duties.

-Ability to communicate and produce work in Spanish.

4. Education and/or experience

Masters degree required and at least three years of relevant experience.

The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

-Typical office environment (not a remote position).

-Mostly an indoor office environment with windows.
