Classification Summary:
Performs or assists with the performance of routine to moderately complex repairs and maintenance on a variety of mechanical/electrical equipment such as mowers small engine machinery and/or equipment common to landscape maintenance such as blowers string trimmers and blade edgers. May perform duties autonomously in an outdoor environment.
Classification Standard Duties:
Overhauls engines (16 cylinders) automatic and manual transmissions clutches and hydraulic systems on generators riding mowers rotary mowers blowers compressors vacuums street sweepers cement mixers power trowels jack hammers cement saws backhoes cranes dump trucks and other equipment. Performs preventative maintenance by changing oil lubricating replacing worn parts and adjusting aforementioned equipment. Sharpens hand tools and mower reels bed knives rotary mower blades rototillers vertical machines and sod cutters. Maintains inventory and appropriate records. Requisitions replacement parts. Operates diagnostic electronic equipment for checking charging systems blade tip speeds braking systems and electronic ignition. Performs arc and gas welding and fabrication of unique turf equipment. Performs tuneups repairs brake system steering systems electrical and electronic ignition systems; operates voltmeter to troubleshoot electronic systems failures in starters and alternators and portable emergency generators. May shovel and remove snow and ice from designated areas. May operate various snow removal equipment.
Required Education Experience Certification/License Equivalency
Required Education:High School diploma or GED certificate.; Required Experience:Five (5) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.; Equivalency:Completion of a postsecondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience.; Required Certification/License:
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge in the use of common hand and power tools. Knowledge of repair and maintenance of grounds/labor equipment.; SKILLS:Skill in repairing and maintaining grounds/labor equipment.; ABILITIES:Ability to effectively communicate.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Perform preventative maintenance and regular services inspections and repairs that prevent potential problems such as lubrication adjustments cleaning testing and replacement of worn parts on diesel gasoline and electrical engine equipment. Maintain vehicle functional condition by listening to operator complaints; conducting inspections; repairing engine failures; repairing mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions; replacing parts and components; repairing body damage on diesel gasoline and electrical equipment. Communicate effectively with customers writing. Coordinate activities with other maintenance sections and customers. Consult with vendors manufacturers and dealers regarding equipment and automotive issues.

Small engine or equipment manufacturers certification. Valid New Mexico drivers license is required.
