This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in research in the field of Early Detection and Early Intervention in Cerebral Palsy. The Research Therapist / Fellow provides professional expertise and skills in research methodology data collection and the interpretation and evaluation of results. This role will be embedded within the Research Team supporting the ProgramLead for Early Detection and Intervention and Senior Research Fellow and provide assistance on a variety of projects. Additionally you will be undertaking developmental assessments and providing intervention to infants and children with cerebral palsy.
You will be based at the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Institute at Camperdown. You will work with other multidisciplinary subject matter experts and academic researchers. You will be required to travel usually within Sydney Metropolitan Area and surrounds.
Responsibilities are appropriate to the Therapist or Fellow role and include but are not limited to the following:
- Support establishment of future research directions and strategies in collaboration with the Research leadership team to ensure achievement of agreed goals and objectives
- Support the implementation of designated research projects; review and synthesise the outcomes of research studies and develop ideas for application
- Contribute to high quality research outputs that significantly contribute to the prevention and cure of Cerebral Palsy
- Maintain awareness and play a role in identifying opportunities to generate funding in order to support future research projects
- Develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships to ensure the successful delivery of current and future research projects and clinical trials
- Contribute to development of peerreviewed research papers journal articles and materials for publication
- Provide physiotherapy intervention and conduct assessments within research studies including clinical trials for infants and young children with cerebral palsy
- Collect input and clean research data to maintain data integrity and quality in preparation for analysis and publication.
- Conduct thorough literature searches reviews and prepare information to support the development of peer reviewed publications protocols ethics submissions grant applications and conference presentations.
- Support ethics and governance administration across sites and studies
- Coordinate with researchers and administrative staff from multiple departments and institutions to ensure research milestones are met
- Participate in research team meetings and provide reports on progress and issues requiring resolution.
Selection criteria:
- Research Fellow: PhD
- Research Therapist: Research experience highly desirable
- Physiotherapists preference other allied health professionals applications welcomed
- Substantial experience in paediatric physiotherapy/occupational therapy including working with infants and toddlers with cerebral palsy or similar conditions and their families
- experience conducting/supporting the conduct of clinical trials in cerebral palsy eg delivering per protocol intervention and /or data collection
- Advanced General Movements Assessment certification preferable
- Experience with conducting a variety of CP specific and other paediatric assessments
- Robust numeracy skills and demonstrated attention to detail with experience in quantitative research methods data administration collection and analyses
- Solid computer skills using relevant software for quantitative research e.g. REDcap EndNote Microsoft Office (Word Excel Powerpoint)
- Excellent organisational and administration skills including the ability to understand and follow complex detailed technical instructions
- Excellent written and oral communication skills including demonstrated welldeveloped scientific writing skills with proven ability to effectively analyse literature and produce clear succinct high quality outputs including website content publications and presentations for a diverse audience
- Flexibility to work at multiple work sites across Sydney as needed
- A current WWCC and a national police check or willingness to obtain prior to commencement in the role.
- Drivers license (minimum P2)
