Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic School Bremerton WA Parttime Position 30 hours a week

Our Lady Star of the Sea is a Catholic Liberal Arts elementary school located in Bremerton WA. Currently OLSOS serves 235 students in PreKindergarten through Eighth Grade. We are delighted to have a school staff who embrace the mission of Catholic Liberal Arts Education and to have the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia of Nashville as a part of our community.

The purpose of our school community is to cultivate missionary disciples who are fully alive in Jesus Christ. Our school guides children into a meaningful friendship with Jesus Christ and a daily life patterned on the Catholic faith. Students discover that our Lord illuminates reason gives richer meaning to all learning and enlivens culture. Thus they grow in virtue and the fruits of the Holy Spirit. This relationship directs their lives to Jesus Gospel mission in an apostolic age that is a time when most people have not heard the Good News of Jesus. Our core purpose is to cultivate students who evangelize not merely through words but through an incarnational presence: when people encounter our students they are attracted to God through them.

Job Summary

Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic School is seeking a parttime teacher for the 2025/2026 school year to instruct Latin. The successful candidate should have extensive knowledge of Latin and be capable of instructing K8 grade levels. Candidates should also have previous teaching experience and be knowledgeable of and committed to a Catholic classical liberal education philosophy.

Responsibilities and Duties

Provide thorough instruction while assessing students regularly and tracking progress
Present and follow the curriculum selected while providing supplemental resources if needed
Maintain classroom management while fostering joy for the language
Communicate effectively with administrators teachers parents and students for success
Participate in professional development in the classical model and other selected programs

Minimum Qualifications

Be a practicing Catholic willing to pledge fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church
Hold a Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline; Masters preferred
Have experience teaching within primary and middle school grade levels
Have at least an intermediate level of Latin proficiency (capable of reading the Vulgate

Apolloniuss History and/or similarly difficult texts)

Demonstrate an ease in using the ecclesiastical or the Calabrese classical pronunciation
Desire to learn and demonstrate sufficient Latin proficiency by the end of the summer with training provided
Clear a background check and complete Safe Environment training

Salary

Part time 25 hours a week at $25 $35/hourAny offered salary is determined based on internal equity internal salary ranges market data
