Job Description

Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is one of the largest school divisions in Alberta serving the education needs of approximately 17950 students in 42 schools. EIPS is recruiting a fulltime (1.0 FTE) Junior High Math Impact and Health Teacher at Sherwood Heights Junior High.

Sherwood Heights Junior High serves approximately 630 students in grades 7 to 9 with 32 teaching staff and 11 support staff. The school is located in Sherwood Park AB.

Sherwood Heights Junior High offers a safe and secure environment for students to meet their educational needs with dualtrack English and French Immersion programming as well as the Logos Christian program.. The school offers several interesting extracurricular and noonhour activities.

The Impact Program is a specialized system program designed to meet the needs of students in grades 410 with diagnosed learning disabilities or specific learning disorders. In elementary and junior high the program offers a smaller class setting with a focus on improving academic skills through specific skill instruction accommodations compensatory strategies and selfadvocacy skills. Students follow a typical classroom routine may be integrated in regular classes for some programming and are engaged as a part of the larger school community. In senior high core subjects and optional courses are available through a variety of instructional settings smallgroup instruction and regular programming allowing students to experience success. Impact students are working toward a high school diploma.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Education degree
  • Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
  • Effective organization and classroom management skills
  • Ability to create a classroom environment where students feel safe supported and challenged
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Experience or familiarity with analyzing data and using data to inform decisions and/or instruction
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Growth mindset and ability to use feedback to improve practice
  • Relentless drive to set and achieve personal and professional goals
