Residence Hall Director

Job Description:

The Hall Director (HD) is a livein position responsible for fostering a safe inclusive and engaging residential community that promotes student success personal development and academic achievement. The HD is responsible for supervising student staff implementing communitybuilding initiatives and managing operational responsibilities to create a thriving and supportive livinglearning environment. The HD contributes to Hinds Community Colleges commitment to student success inclusion and institutional excellence.

JOB TITLE: Residence Hall Director REPORTS TO: District Director of Housing & Residence Life

DEPARTMENT: Office of Student Housing & Residence Life

GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in a related field.
  • 12 years of experience in residence life student engagement or related higher education fields.
  • Proven leadership and mentorship experience with diverse student populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Higher Education Counseling or related discipline.
  • Experience supervising and developing student staff.
  • Familiarity with crisis response facilities management and residential programming models.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Supervision: Recruit train and supervise Resident Assistants and Desk Assistants; facilitate staff meetings and evaluations; lead student leadership initiatives like RHA.
  • Community Engagement: Foster a welcoming environment plan educational programs maintain visibility in the hall and collaborate with campus partners.
  • Crisis Response: Serve in oncall rotation; respond to student emergencies and incidents; maintain accurate documentation; support student wellbeing.
  • Administrative Management: Oversee Hall operations including occupancy safety policy enforcement desk management and summer programs.
  • Communication & Inclusion: Maintain professional communication with students families and staff; support diversity and inclusion through programs and daily interactions.
  • Maintain knowledge of diversityrelated issues legislation and best practices.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise and mentor Resident Assistants (RAs) and Desk Assistants to ensure operational excellence and leadership development.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and the employee is occasionally required to perform job responsibilities in the outdoors and off site.
