PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Identify and enroll eligible children of migratory agricultural workers into the Migrant Education Program.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Certification:

HS Diploma or equivalent required

Two years of study at an institution of higher learning or Associates degree preferred

Valid Drivers License

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Fluent in Spanish and English

Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate with staff parents students and community

Ability to conduct home visits and communicate effectively with parents and children

Understand and follow procedures and policies

Ability to work with diverse community populations

Knowledge of various local social service agencies

Work Conditions:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions including prolonged keyboarding & use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (less than 50 pounds)

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent interruptions; Must maintain professional demeanor under stress; Must have problem solving skills.; Access to transportation during work hours for frequent districtwide travel

Regular attendance is an essential function.

Minimum Experience:

Two years of successful experience as an instructional assistant or prior experience in a migrant education program preferred.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Actively identify and recruit eligible migrant children within the school district by establishing communication networks conducting area surveys reviewing family surveys and following up with phone calls to assess eligibility for the Migrant Education program.
  2. Conduct home visits when needed and in coordination with a colleague for the purpose of identifying and recruiting eligible migrant students including preschool age children.
  3. Inform parents of available school and social service programs based on individual family needs.
  4. Provide classroom support to students by assisting with their learning needs as necessary.
  5. Participate in required recruitment training sessions and all other training related to the job responsibilities.
  6. Determine and certify student eligibility for MEP participation in accordance with program guidelines.
  7. Accurately complete and submit Certificates of Eligibility (COEs).
  8. Collaborate with campus personnel by providing and requesting information as it pertains to the Identification & Recruitment of migrant students and families.
  9. Collect and compile relevant data to prepare required federal state and local reports.
  10. Support the maintenance of the NGS database by providing accurate and up to date information.
  11. Identify opportunities for recruiting migrant families on campuses and within the community.
  12. Maintain confidentiality of information.
  13. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  14. Comply with state district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers including the Texas Educator Code of Ethics
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.
