Summary

East Side House founded in 1891 is a 501(c) (3) organization that has served the South Bronx since 1963. The organization is dedicated to the community and focused on providing resources and opportunities. East Side House has identified that education is the foundation for economic improvement and through its youth education and technology programs it teaches skills to allow its students and clients to become more selfsufficient and independent. As a community resource the organization also provides services to families and a growing senior population. In 2020 the organization began food distribution as an additional way to provide economic support to the community we serve.

East Side House Settlement is a community resource in the South Bronx. We believe education is the key that enables all people to create an economic and civic opportunities for themselves their families and the communities. We are seeking a dynamic hardworking and team player who shares our passion for providing exceptional services to meet the needs of children and families in the South Bronx and Northern Manhattan communities.

The Student Success Center (SSC) is a youthled college access program that works to sustain and grow college and career preparedness planning and applications. The SSC works with students from four high schools on the educational campus providing them with the necessary tools and resources to reach their postsecondary education goals.

Primary Functions

Duties and Responsibilities shall include but are not limited to the following:

  • The daytoday management including building and maintaining relationships with administration faculty staff students and families
  • Develop collegial relationships with School Principals DOE staffand other communitybased organizations funding agencies resource organizationsand technicalassistance providers.
  • Directly provide quality supervision of East Side House support staffthrough monthly group meetings as well as individual meetings to discuss performance goals outcomes strengths and challenges.
  • Developquantitative and qualitative reports on ethe Student Success Centerthat includes attendance supportsprovided by staff and Youth Leadersas well asevent documentation.
  • Maintain and organize all required recordsaccording to organizational and contractual requirements and applicable regulations.
  • Work closely with key constituents including DOE staff and CARA to support staff and students in supplemental programs and service
  • Communicate effectively with students direct reporting staff peers supervisors and funders.
  • Participate in departmentwide collaborations including staff training advocacy and seeks to foster crosssite collaboration with other programs.
  • Lead and participate in administrative and staff meetings on a regular basis or as requested.
  • Guide students towards removing barriers toward graduation engage students in college preparatory activities provide supportive services and increase selfdirection and selfsufficiency
  • Plan and organize program activities to maximize program contracts goals and performance targets.
  • Review all documentation related to students progress for accuracy completeness and clarity.
  • Plan support and attend Youth Leader Summer Training and Academic Year Conferences
  • Provide data collection for Graduation College and lastly other postsecondary placementsas an annual culminating report.
  • Manage budget (nonpersonnel) and submit requests in accordance with fiscal policies.
  • Ensure that program staff follows through on all planning budgetary scheduling and implementation tasks.
  • Other duties or special projects as assigned by direct supervisor

Qualifications

Required Skills/Experience

  • Bachelors degree in education human services or related field.
  • Minimum of 35 years experience with youth at risk and/or school setting with experience in postsecondary work.
  • Experience in program administration including staff supervision and program implementation.
  • Bilingual skills preferred
  • Excellent verbal analytical written communication and organizational skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office including Word and Teams / Google Suite Zoom and other applications.

Expected Work Schedule

MF 8am4pm

Required Clearances

  • Department of Education Fingerprint Clearance

Required Trainings

Required trainings as recommended by ESH and in partnership with DOE and CARA.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will supervise assigned personnel including frontline staff and support staff.

Work Environment

Business casual. This job operates in a school office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers filing cabinets and fax machines.

Travel

Local travel is expected for this position.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is generally a sedentary role; however some filing and site visits are required. This would require the ability to lift files open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
