Sports Performance Coach
Location: Monroe High School
Reports To: Director of Athletics
Job Goal:
The Sports Performance Coach is responsible for developing and overseeing athletic performance programming for all MHSAAsanctioned sports at Monroe High School. The role operates under an expanded model of sports performance to meet the evolving needs of studentathletes and their development.
The programming will address but is not limited to:
- Strength Training
- Power Development
- Speed and Agility
- Energy System Development
- Injury Reduction
- Recovery Modalities and Sleep Optimization
- Collaboration with Athletic Training and Administration
- Reinforcement of Mental Health Initiatives
This position aims to improve athletic performance reduce injuries and promote lifelong wellness. The coach will design evidencebased training programs supervise training sessions evaluate athletes maintain performance records offer nutritional guidance and teach sports performance classes. Regular collaboration with coaches athletic trainers and administrators is required to ensure consistent athletecentered development.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Design and implement comprehensive sports performance programs for all athletic teams during preseason inseason and offseason periods.
- Supervise and evaluate training sessions to ensure safe and effective execution.
- Collaborate with athletic trainers on injury prevention and rehabilitation plans.
- Provide nutritional education and individualized guidance.
- Conduct annual needsanalyses for each sport in collaboration with coaches and athletic trainers.
- Monitor and document team and athlete participation and progress.
- Promote the vision and direction of the overall sports performance program.
- Support mental health awareness and wellness strategies within training plans.
- Communicate regularly with coaches staff and administration.
- Recommend professional development opportunities for coaching staff.
- Maintain and oversee athletic facilities including equipment safety and functionality.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Basic Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks and interruptions.
- Attention to detail with strong research and planning skills.
- Extensive knowledge of strength training and fitness equipment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Familiarity with high school sports and athletic development.
- Ability to maintain professionalism in all interactions with students staff and the community.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Exercise Science Kinesiology or a related field.
- 35 years of experience in strength and conditioning sports performance or a similar field.
- CPR and AED certification required.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Professional certification (e.g. CSCS SCCC) from an accredited organization.
- Michigan Teaching Certification with relevant endorsements.

- Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
- Effective data analysis and reporting abilities.
Physical Demands:
- Demonstrate appropriate techniques and movements for athletes.
- Visual monitoring of athletes is essential.
- Must be able to sit stand lift and carry up to 50 pounds reach squat kneel climb stairs and move equipment as necessary.
